"Dont fight it" they say, "pay it" I'm told.

You can’t really dispute it since officers are “trained to determine speed with their eyes” or something like that. But that’s why you plead not guilty and the charges get dropped down to parking tickets… depending on exactly how fast you were going of course.

There are exceptions to fighting speeding tickets like this. For example, the city of Buffalo does not plea down tickets so there isn’t any point in fighting it. They tell you this up front in court.

You can still push it to trial, but that’s a pain in the ass.

I got one on Saturday night. Along with the ticket is a Statement of Correction for Equipment Defect.

I either had to have a cop or a a NYS vehicle inspector sign off that my brake light was fixed prior to 1/2 hour after sunset on the next business day. Then the ticket is dismissed.

He got the inspections done, but not in the time required for the ticket to be dismissed. The DA just decided not to break his balls about being a couple of days late on it.

on the question regarding speeding ticket pleading…

From what I understand, the reason most municipalities plea down speeding tickets to non-moving violations is that the municipality gets to keep a higher amount(or potentially all off) the proceeds from non-moving violation fines. You almost always get a 1201(a). If you have a relatively clean record, the DA will most times allow you to plea to a lesser charge and avoid the points, and it results in the town getting more money out of the deal. If you have the time, it’s almost always in your interest to attempt to plea ticket if you have a clean record, due to the potential for the accumulation of points causing an increase in your insurance rates, etc. That doesn’t work with TVB Courts in NYC, Buffalo or Rochester. I don’t believe you’re allowed to plea down tickets there.

In my experience, if the ticket was for more than 15MPH over the speed limit, they’re usually less likely to let you plea to a non moving, but you might get to plea to a lower speeding ticket (i.e. for 10MPH over rather than 20MPH)
