Drifting at its worst

Amen.
Tons of candy ravers wear DrunknMunky, Upper Playground, etc.
Tons of poser sk8z0rz wear RDS, Zero, Blind, AWS, etc.
Tons of private school rapper gangstizzles wear LRG, Arme, School of Hardknocks, etc.
Tons of non graffiti heads wear Deck, Tribal, etc.

But you can’t avoid it.

Ecko used to be a “rocker” brand. DrunknMunky isn’t for the ravers anymore (now hip hop is taking it over). LRG is in the same boat as DM. People wear School of Hardknocks when they go to U of T.

It sucks but you can’t avoid it.

ON TOPIC:

I agree with Pavel. 100%.

“Where drifting had begun is where it should’ve stayed. In the mountainous roads of Japan”

That was the stupidest quote ever. If it stayed in Japan, we’d never get to enjoy it.

I, for one, love and appreciate the fact that it made it here.

IF it didn’t, we’d be open-diff loving, stock suspension bouncing, 150hp pushing, drivers. That’s a little boring to me.

As for the talk of women. It’s true, they are being plastered over every car mag under the sun. HOWEVER it is 100% their choice. A friend of mine (who is not of legal age) decided to get into modelling and wound up on stage at Darknights. And in a calender. And in the Sun. This isn’t cool. But it’s her choice.

You can’t seperate women from cars in the motorsports world. Why? Because guys love both. No denying that. Even chunky bai is all about the ladies. Promoters know this, and realize that more crowds will be drawn, and more money will be made. This is their goal right?

Sure we have to respect the roots of drifting, but there aren’t mountains in Ontario. We drift with what we’ve got, and some of us progress faster than others. Why should they be denied the chance because Japan did it first?

I love the fact that companies are coming out with affordable and available parts for the SR and the S-chassis nissans. This is a great thing and I will continue to embrace it.

Sure I’m sick of “Do you drift?” and “Did you do ‘the swap’?”. But there’s heartaches that come with everything. Sure i’m sick of the mainstream crap on t.v., news, etc. and every tom, dick, harry and their grandma drifting their accord wagons. But there’s goodness behind the madness.

Of course the underground scene is nice but drifting is a sport of glory, it’s a show-off motorsport, it’s about who looks the best. You can’t brag to yourself about your linked sweeping left and right handers. You can’t brag about your uber-flush wheels and your Tanabe suspension to people who don’t care. SR swaps are meaningless to your parents. The reason why you drift is: 1) the feeling 2) the look. You can’t deny that. You want people to see and be "wow"ed, to be praised for the stuff you’ve worked on for years.

If you’re all about mountain passes. Move to J land or Cali, and do your part to add the already huge annoyance to the public, as well as to the law. Although I’m sure they already have enough of it there.

I love the growing scene in Canada, and I’m glad to be a part of it.

And it’s fun to be a part of the underground as well. That’s why we went to those parking lots at the East End Meet. We love to have people watch what we’ve worked on countless sleepless nights.

Anyway, to end this: we’ll be around when the dust settles, after the 3f3f, after all the 240s are all bent to hell or rusted to shit, after the police can recognize an SR swap and do a city-wide crackdown on drifting, after FF to FR conversions are common place, after APR starts making wheels with dish, after special tires are created that are designed to be stretched, after CF GT wings are a factory option, after S Chassis become the new most stolen vehicle, etc. etc. etc.

The few will still be there.

You are a complete Idiot, and that goes for ‘roast’ as well.

This will be my last attempt at a good discussion. I will go back to the boards I got this from and discuss it. They have a really productive and insightfull discussion about the link. All SON does is rant, there are other directions of discussion from what you would like to see change, the positives the negatives for example. Its simple half of you guys just posted for sake of posting, congrats.

Andrew.[/quote]

Sorry Andrew, I don’t drift and I never claim to be dori-dori certified. A few members (quote Jesse, 4) may be good drifters out of 1300 registered board users, what’s that a whooping total of 0.3% total SON population? Did you ever think that of the 1300 registered users there are probably 30% who own 240’s? Of that 30% who actually drifts or participates in the sport? What kind of answer did you expect; you quote something from a drift only board and compare the discussions on a small market enthusiast board. Stop perpetuating the aura that 240 owners drift, period.

What a beautiful summary to a dreaded ending! Smack on, buddy.

So very true, which is what worries me most. Idiots ruin things, especially when it comes to something as potentially dangerous as drifting. I agree that drifting should be freely enjoyed by anyone that has the desire and commitment to learn about it, spend time practising in a safe environment, and respect the fragility of it. Because once the next F&TF movie is released, cops will be hunting down potential drifters because of the stupid mistakes of those people who didnt take the time to learn, and couldnt give 2 shits about the community.

you can say all you want about whats going wrong with drifting, andrew, but it will never rectify itself.

useless discussion, useless topic.

yadda yadda.

and hey…i have two LRG shirts, i don’t go to private school nor do i think i am a gangster. i don’t like the fact that you can’t wear certain things because the fear of being ridiculed is too much.

all these generalizations…western culture and ideology…you gotta love it.

Hey guys.

Well I read a one of the article’s with regards to “drifting staying in Japan” and a few post’s here.

The reality of the situation is drifting, like all other motor sports, grows and with growth comes change. Some change is good, some not and it’s up to the individual to like it or not.

True no one like’s poser’s or follower’s and that’s apparent in more then just drifting but in life it’s self. There is’nt really anything we can do about that.

What we can do in our own way is keep the of sport drifting true to it’s roots and educate others on that. Take American muscle car owners, there still around, all be it not as popular, but they keep passing knowledge along, doing what they can so there passion does not go the way of the dinosaur.

Drifting here is just now really starting to catch on and it will continue to grow and change and most likely will reach the point of where Street Racing did a couple of years ago with regards to popularity and media hype. But like all things it will eventually slow down and level off. It’s up to you to decide where you want to take this sport in your own way. Are you going to stay true or follow the faze of this sport like most other’s will.

Anyway just a couple of thoughts.

Take care.

Easy 8)

funny you guys mention lrg as a hiphop clothing company

but their main market was skateboarders when they started off a few years ago

the sponsored quite a few guys

all hiphop oriented

i havnt picked up a skate mag in a while

i started getting pissed off when kids started dressing like 70-80’s rock star dreggs

did anyone notice how poorly written that article was?

he made alot of grammar errors and there was alot of redundancy as well.

and who cares anyways, you guys make the media profitable…

you wont catch a drift vid of model car in my home… i dont buy a friggin thing… just the parts…

i ‘would’ drift if i ‘could’ drift, but i cant so i just snow-drift…

[offtopic]

I never said LRG is a rapper company. It’s roots lie in rave/skate culture. It’s BECOME a rapper company, and that makes me sad.

I wear like all of the companies I mentioned. Red Dragon, DrunknMunky, Akademiks, PNB, Deck, Upper Playground, Volcom, Phat Farm, Osiris, Enyce, and the occasional band t-shirt. I guess it’s cause I’m a bit of everything. I like confusing people.

“all these generalizations…western culture and ideology…you gotta love it.”
indeed.

pfft, you just say that cause your gf works at ikea

[kip voice] your mom works at Ikea [/kip voice]

[napolean voice] luckyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy [/napolean voice]

lol it’s already happening… (taken from TSR WTB)

Sassafrass:

"I always wanted to have a 95 240SX, or newer, so I might be in the market for one, but more or less a trade only.

Trade for my 93 civic hatch, comes with 2 motors(both b series), many parts. In good condition, but rust is bubling in the quarters.

Let me know
g_kneitas@hotmail.com"

"car comes with cf hatch, cf spoon front lip, real vision smoked amber corners, full type r dash with arm rest.

Worth it in parts alone!"

LOL, i guess people are trying to trade in their civics for 240s now

Your dating Jesse’s Mom?!?!

I don’t wear like any brand names lol… Well, the shoes I have on right now are Nike, but all my others are no name. I’m all about the cheap knock-offs, no point in feeding these companies money by paying for an image I don’t even want.
