Amen.
Tons of candy ravers wear DrunknMunky, Upper Playground, etc.
Tons of poser sk8z0rz wear RDS, Zero, Blind, AWS, etc.
Tons of private school rapper gangstizzles wear LRG, Arme, School of Hardknocks, etc.
Tons of non graffiti heads wear Deck, Tribal, etc.
But you can’t avoid it.
Ecko used to be a “rocker” brand. DrunknMunky isn’t for the ravers anymore (now hip hop is taking it over). LRG is in the same boat as DM. People wear School of Hardknocks when they go to U of T.
It sucks but you can’t avoid it.
ON TOPIC:
I agree with Pavel. 100%.
“Where drifting had begun is where it should’ve stayed. In the mountainous roads of Japan”
That was the stupidest quote ever. If it stayed in Japan, we’d never get to enjoy it.
I, for one, love and appreciate the fact that it made it here.
IF it didn’t, we’d be open-diff loving, stock suspension bouncing, 150hp pushing, drivers. That’s a little boring to me.
As for the talk of women. It’s true, they are being plastered over every car mag under the sun. HOWEVER it is 100% their choice. A friend of mine (who is not of legal age) decided to get into modelling and wound up on stage at Darknights. And in a calender. And in the Sun. This isn’t cool. But it’s her choice.
You can’t seperate women from cars in the motorsports world. Why? Because guys love both. No denying that. Even chunky bai is all about the ladies. Promoters know this, and realize that more crowds will be drawn, and more money will be made. This is their goal right?
Sure we have to respect the roots of drifting, but there aren’t mountains in Ontario. We drift with what we’ve got, and some of us progress faster than others. Why should they be denied the chance because Japan did it first?
I love the fact that companies are coming out with affordable and available parts for the SR and the S-chassis nissans. This is a great thing and I will continue to embrace it.
Sure I’m sick of “Do you drift?” and “Did you do ‘the swap’?”. But there’s heartaches that come with everything. Sure i’m sick of the mainstream crap on t.v., news, etc. and every tom, dick, harry and their grandma drifting their accord wagons. But there’s goodness behind the madness.
Of course the underground scene is nice but drifting is a sport of glory, it’s a show-off motorsport, it’s about who looks the best. You can’t brag to yourself about your linked sweeping left and right handers. You can’t brag about your uber-flush wheels and your Tanabe suspension to people who don’t care. SR swaps are meaningless to your parents. The reason why you drift is: 1) the feeling 2) the look. You can’t deny that. You want people to see and be "wow"ed, to be praised for the stuff you’ve worked on for years.
If you’re all about mountain passes. Move to J land or Cali, and do your part to add the already huge annoyance to the public, as well as to the law. Although I’m sure they already have enough of it there.
I love the growing scene in Canada, and I’m glad to be a part of it.
And it’s fun to be a part of the underground as well. That’s why we went to those parking lots at the East End Meet. We love to have people watch what we’ve worked on countless sleepless nights.
Anyway, to end this: we’ll be around when the dust settles, after the 3f3f, after all the 240s are all bent to hell or rusted to shit, after the police can recognize an SR swap and do a city-wide crackdown on drifting, after FF to FR conversions are common place, after APR starts making wheels with dish, after special tires are created that are designed to be stretched, after CF GT wings are a factory option, after S Chassis become the new most stolen vehicle, etc. etc. etc.
The few will still be there.
