advantage of the first being that it seems to avoid DC traffic. I’ll probably be leaving some time between 11am or 1pm, depending if my m contours have been clearcoated/dried a couple days by my buddy (then I have to get my tires mounted and throw them on).
I would take a modification of the I-95 route. We have made the trip to Richmond a few times, and the traffic around DC/Baltimore was not too bad… (Assuming you will be rolling through there around 6-7pm).
What we normally do is take the 400, down 16, and cut across 98 —> I-19 south and eventually meet up with I-15. (The only difference between this and the route suggested is going way the hell out of the way to take 390). The rest of the route is spot on, and you can really get moving on some of the back roads leading up to the highway.
I drove to the coast of NC, for 7 years, twice a month when I was in the service. Everyone that came down to visit took a “short cut” that was 4 hours longer than my route. WV sucks to drive through.
My routing:
Grand Island - 90E - batavia - 63s - geneseo - 390s - 11/15s till just north of harrisburg (go to camp hill PA) then 95s - 695W around baltimore - 95 - 495E around DC - 95 - 295 around richmond - 95
idk man… all i’m saying is gas up before. the people are just weird plus route 19 sucks and a deer was hit twice going through that state when i was in the car. so i guess its personal lol
I’ve always met super nice people at the Shoney’s on 19 about halfway to Beckley. (Summersville?)
That said, the road itself sucks balls. 70MPH with stop lights? WTgay?
Yeah, driving through WVA is the highlight of the trip to Florida for me (other than coming out of the mountains in NC when the temp goes up 20 degrees) I stop in Morgantown to gas up and eat, then it’s an easy traffic free drive from then on.
