i have a 90 gsx. my car takes long to start first off because the fuel pump valve that closes to keep the fuel in the lines is broke. one day it was taking really long to start and after i cranked it for so long my turbo timer started to act up. it is a hks tt. it would just keep flashing and beeping so i disconnected the main harness for the tt. the car ran fine that day then i was able to start and drive it the next day twice, but my battery reset on me the second time i started it that day. so now the third day it wont start at all. the battery it fine and the fuses are fine. my knock sensor is probably going but i want to wait and replace it when i take the motor out in like a month. could it be this or something else? my fuel pump is a walbro 255 by the way, thanks for any help
when you try to start, do you turn the key on and leave it for 10 seconds or so to prime your fuel lines?
welcome to the world of dsm. try to start it now that the weather is warmer, and take shureshots advice
ok my fuel pump is very loud it is a walbor 255 i know when it is on or off and it dosn’t go when i try to start it or anything. if the starter was bad would that mean that the fuel pump wouldn’t start either? thanks
If your pump doesn’t turn on when you turn the key, maybe there is not power getting to it - ie bad grounds. On my civic, if I had a single ground wire out of place, it would act as if there was no battery.
ok that might be it, but my car still reset the second time i started it. like my stereo was reset and stuff, i don’t think the fuel pump would have to do with that, and it shouldn’t be my tt should it, since i spliced the wires from the tt and not disconnect anythin i don’t think that would be the problem. thanks for the help so far
did u mean charge or change? i have a charger and it says the battery is at 12.6 volts right now
I said change. Just because your charger says it has voltage, doesn’t mean it has any amperage, meaning it might not be able to withstand and draw on it.
ok i will borrow my friends red top soon and see if that works
ok so yesterday i didn’t have a new battery but i jumped my car to my friends. the car ran fine and i drove it around the block. i got home shut it off then immediately tried to start it again, and it wouldn’t. so i know this means my battery is shot but my friend thinks the alternator is gone too. so im getting a red top then is it likely that it is shot? after that i will get it texted at auto zone for the alternator, but do u think it is? thanks for all the help
If the car ran from a jump, but won’t start on it’s own, it’s probably a bad battery. If the batter was good, it should start fine. If the alternator was bad, it wouldn’t run after started.
