dual TIP exhaust?

holy crap batman! cgguy that looks so hot… drools … and yea Wilson’s exhaust is very nice aswell … customed at same place … custom is hot indeed :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll post some pictures of why custom is sometime the best bet. I just had one built yesturday and you ain’t gonna find this shit on any shelf.

hmm… I wonder what Dan got

But I personally don’t like “custom” stuff on any car… beating quality parts from companies that have been in the business for decades, just can be done by some random shop… no matter how good they are. I know this is just an exhuast, so you can easily argue this.

how can u possibly say that a custom build shop cant beat the quality of a mass produced product.

that makes no sence at all

I wasn’t talking about cheap sh*t exhaust you buy off ebay…

It’s an exhaust people…size it right and mount it right and that’s mostly it…

My set up isn’t exactly a work of art, but some people here can attest that it’s quiet & sleeper-ish but sounds good (what I wanted).

$50 OBX dual-tip muffler off eBay
$250-$300 (or so) custom 3" piping from cat to the resonator, 2.5" to the muffler, crush-bent
$90 Large large resonator

I think it looks and sounds great, both when it was N/A and with KA-T, and hasn’t given me any problems.

I understand some of the reasons why some people might want to spend a lot on a high-end exhaust, but I just can’t justify it myself. Besides, all the aftermarket pre-made’s mostly look the same, are loud, and draw tons of attention.

That’s my take on it anyway…

I sorta agree with him though. I mean think of it this way:

Greddy knows they will sell over 5000 350z exhausts. So even if they make 30 different exhausts and dyno each different muffler and piping design they will split the testing and design costs over 5000 different cars. Imagine if a shop had to build 30 different exhausts for your car before they got it right! How much would that cost?

Custom exhaust shops usually crimp bend or use pre made bends to fit an exhaust following the same general path as the stock exhaust, and they focus on getting it done as fast as possible to make sure the cost is low. A company like GReddy that has its own mandrel bending machine and access to tons of different sized materials so each bend can be as large of a radius as possible to keep exhaust flow up.

Once they have made their peice of work the company makes a jig and mass produces the exhaust so even if the intial cost of making the exhaust was 10,000$ in labour and materials it will pay off within a couple hundred sales.

The same is true for intercooler kits and suspension kits etc.

Custom is good when you are doing things people rarely do, or to fit around unique things on your car. But when you just want to upgrade a part on a mostly stock car, i still think that apex/hks/greddy/magnaflow/borla is the way to go.

I totally agree actually…I just went by my circumstances at the time: comparing about $400 of work/parts, a look that I wanted & shop I trusted versus $700-800+ for something I was worrying about being too loud…my car is for the street and I try to avoid too much attention. I’m hardly advertising crush-bending as prime. I just figure it wasn’t worth it to me, whereas for example having a new turbo versus used turbo was.

I figure some people are in my boat whereas others would rather go with a tested exhaust systems for maximum power and other reasons.

My point was that custom exhausts are not necessarily as expensive as full brand name exhaust systems, and also offer flexibility as far as resonator size, muffler style and piping sizes & bends etc.

To each their own, it would be wise to fully consider both options before getting an exhaust system IMO because both have their own place and purpose.

EDIT: Guess I should have added pics…here’s what my exhaust looks like:

GP Sports spec R on a stock ka24de

sounds friggin nice. sounds even better with turbo.

this video has convinced me to go with either the GP sports or custom.

the GP duals look very unqiue if you watch closely.

neither was i

GT

3"to dual 2.5" y-pipe behind the cat, 2 15 degree pie cuts per 2.5" pipe, no mufflers. I ran the car like this and it was just a tad to loud, will be using a butterfly valve to quiet it down for street use.

Has the benifit of looking undercover and stockish.

^^

that sounds exactly like the Trust DD setup or Dart Izumi.

and where did you get the butterfly valve?
