E Test as a hotrod

im sure all of you know how if you have a engine swap your car is able to be tested as a hotrod so you go in as 1980 spec. however i heard from someone that your car is then titled as a hotrod and your insurance can fuck you over.

seems like a load of bulloks to me can anyone confirm?

i think(not too sure)
if u register ur car as a hotrod then u can drive during rush hours
and if nething happened to ur car on the road during rush hour, the insurance company won’t cover it…

i don’t think the title changes

call the mto on monday and find out for yourself. don’t listen to what people say they “know”

I don’t really think your insurance checks with the MTO. I had my car etested almost 2 years ago as a hotrod and my insurance hasn’t said a thing. My insurance actually went down within the last year. I also pay $300/6 months for my 240 so there is no way i’m categorized as a “hot-rod” driver by my insurance company.

you shouldnt have to worry about that, dont tell the insurance nothing about E tests, i dont think they care, just go from place to place untill you find someone who will do it as a hot rod.

I personally just went to CT and got it done there, no questions asked !

I think the wording of the law is that if you swap an older motor into a newer car, you automatically test at 1986 levels.

They say 1980, but … car’s pre 86 don’t need an e-test, so I can’t see there being “1980” levels.

Although a quick google search

One which says “No more e-tests for Ontario modified cars”

and one that says “No way to attain Hot Rod status in Ontario … hoax.”

Call the DMV. As I understood it, you needed certification of some kind to prove that the car is indeed a hot-rod. But odds are the dude running the e-test doesn’t know that.

I’m going this evening to test my car as a hotrod, I’ll let you guys know how it pans out. I was told I just need an invoice from the shop that installed the motor to say its not the original engine.

I work with a mechanic who also part times at PartSource(where I work).
He said,
“For the modified status, we usually test the vehicle as a 1980 Chevrolet C1500.”

All I know is that it’s easier to get away with here than in California (Damn CARB).

Every car I have owned has been a Hotrod. The guys usually don’t care…just tell them to put is as a Hotrod because it’s a 2.0l instead of a 2.4l

And all this stuff about insurance and not driving on the highway…WTF

I got mine tested as Hotrod at Canadian Tire.

Just open your hood and let them see the turbo and all that shit.

They’ll be like ‘woah’

uh huh?

uh huh?

Yeap. I got mine tested when I had a bone stock SR.

They were like “mad tyte yo; a sideways motor”.

dustin went through this today and he had to show proof in the form of an invoice that he had the motor swapped.
