ethical question

well i ran into a little problem today and thought id get some opinions

when I came home from work today there was a oil bill in my door where an oil company came and filled up my tank. the thing is that I didnt call any oil company and the address on the bill is not my address. We dont deal with this oil company and I am not sure what to do. So as of right now we recieved $400 worth of oil and it was not scheduled and the bill is not in our name and does not have the correct address

i did not plan on having a $400 bill for oil and im not sure what i should do? ethically i want to tell the company but i dont want there service (oil price is higher compared to our current company) and we didnt really need the oil or plan for that expense

what would you do?

call em and tell them they are fucktards and to come pump out there oil or sell it to you for a little under your normal price

Well I see 2 options, good or evil.

Good: Call the oil company and tell them about their mistake and that you do not want to be a customer, remove the oil and set everything back to zero.

Evil: Call the oil company and tell them about their mistake and that you do not want to be a customer, explain to them that this screw up is on them and your keeping the “gift” since it’s not billed to you.

I would just call them and tell them you didnt want it. UNLESS they will sell it to you at the competitions cost or lower and you NEED oil. Otherwise they will have to come pump it back out. Which is going to cost them money. So they would just be smart to offer it to you at a low cost.

Burn it, all of it.

not your oil, not your problem…

keep the oil call no one? LOL

or call them and say u fucked up, come get it, but since your wasting MY time, i’m gonna charge u.

I’d throw the bill on my table and deal with it whenever I get free time.

This.

Call them and tell them this. This is all on them, let them deal with it.

I’m a little short on ethics these days.

there is always the less ethical solution;

who ever did order it, will soon realize they didn’t recieve it, and call the oil company, who will have an invoice for someone with an empty tank and no leak…

then again… karma is a bitch…

better business bureau?

Call them, tell them you want to buy it for cost.
If they say no, tell them you locked the cap and they will have to return when it is conveniet for you. You would want to be there to be sure they take no more than what they own.

Then schedule a time and let them take it back. It’s probably not even the oil company that will take the hit.
I’m guessing the truck driver will have to fork over the cash. Having a disgruntled drucker with a tank full of fuel pissed at you does not sound like a good time.

edit: or you can be like the rest of society and give no fucks about people you do not know. because stealing from strangers is the best.

do nothing. they are not going to charge you for it, it was their error and they are not goign to come pump it out either.

free oil for you.

i dont see this as unethical. ethics is based on intent. in this case you haven’t decieved anyone you’re just not spending your own time / resources to correct someone elses mistake at your expense.

I would tell them that they can take it and that there is a $150 access charge to re enter the property. You are wasting your tame to handle their mistake. This will allow them to remedy the situation as well as compensate you for your time and wasted energy.

In the end it will stay in your tank and they will write this off and fire the driver.

I’d sit and let them make the first move. If asked I’d certainly tell the truth, but I’d definitely wait for them to make the effort.

tape the bill to the door of the correct house when nobody is home.

HAHAHAHA. LMFAO!
