Lets go to the track… Straight line bores me. Not knocking the RWD/RWD guys were it takes alot of skill to get good timesin a straight line.
But any asshat can get an AWD and dump the clutch at 6k and go…
And sounds to me that is what you do…Lets see 16k and a beat ass clutch…hmmm let me guess your drag strategy… 6K & dump the clutch!!!
I’ll race you at the strip but 1st do this for me. Buy a heavy duty clutch put it in your Evo dump the clutch a few times then I will back into the staging area. You dump the clutch at 6k and leave your transfer case all over the track and I’ll drive in reverse & win.
You’ll see what I mean after you buy a heavy duty clutch the drivetrain will hate you for it…lol
Lets do this instead it will save your clutch and drivetrain. Next Flat out Friday we will have someone time us both…Oh and I am only an amateur only 1 track day under my belt. Nothing says fun like 130mph down the straightaway at Beaverun and then braking to about 70 to take the 1st turn after the straightaway.
Put it this way HP & TRQ don’t mean shit at the track. Put me in a 1000hp Lingenfelter Z06 and a good driver would kill me in a citation setup well!!! Now that’s fun!!!
P.S. STEELGITYEVO8 this is not an STi vs Evo thing… Evos are better at the drag strip better gearing & better flowing engine design = faster car, but the real test for these cars is what they were made for the TRACK not the STRIP!!! so lets not get your panties in a jumble…lol
u got good points i cant really argue with that. i would love to go to beaver run as well and match it up dont get me wrong . i love to start shit , but i am willing to go at it . if i lose its in good fun for me atleast . oh and the whole 6k and dumping it thing thats why im holding on to the stock clutch its my buffer. although i have no problem overpowering prp track breaking tires loose
I know curt browns evo is not stock by any means but i watched him spin all 4 bfg drag radials 1/2 way down prp going like 10.00@140…i cant say i seen that out of a sti
I have to agree with the evo being the king of the drags. I mean it is period… Only time STi’s win is by default aka last year when Gadiel won it.
But I bought an STi for the track and because of its reliability & backing by dealerships.
DSMs drivetrain scare me the engine strong as hell Bulletproof. An STi has strong drivetrain realible engine but a weak engine at taking mods and getting evo type power you need to drop so much more in an STi to get evo power on stock blocks.
another reason in delaership backing. I bought my car from Langston Subaru they sponsored Auto X events and will warranty work to modded cars to a point of course because the owner and alot of people from there are car enthusiasts and expect you to track and mod the STi. Cause they had a yellow wrx they raced and now a 2.5rs with a wrx swap what Mitsubishi dealership has a modded company car that they track and race? I’ll answer NONE!!! Hell a while back they were taking vins down from people at a track then voiding warranty work.
That right there and Subaru reliability made up my mind on what to get.
Believe me If I had money I would also own a 06 MR for sure…Wait I would sale both the STi & the MR and get a 96-98 Porsche 911tt or a used newer 911tt or better yet sale both & one of my kidneys and get a GT2
Medina (sp?) Mitsu out in Ohio sells Bushur modified Evos on their showroom floor with fully backed warranties. On the EVO VIII’s they were selling a 330 hp and a 350 hp version. Haven’t seen any numbers on the BR modified IX’s but the IX’s are responding to at least light mods much better than the VIII’s. There is also at least one dealer in Jersey and I think another one or two elsewhere selling the BR models. Point is, from what I’ve seen and heard, neither Subaru nor Mitsubishi is very friendly with their warranty work, it’s all about finding a dealer that is willing to work with you and bend the corporate rules a bit, which is pretty much the same with any company and warranty claims.
