I dont think he gets the point that the seat is 3 feet from being LHD, explain if it has changed your life. e said he wont buy me one because “We dont drive RHD cars in this country”
Just kill him, then he can’t protest.
Or at least make him an invalid.
holestly i don’t really see the point of the RHD cars. ya they are different but you can swap all the motors and everything from the JDM cars over to the USDM cars and then you don’t have to re-learn how to drive. Granted both my cousins drive RHD S13’s and they didn’t take long to make sure that there left hand turns were wider. but still if your thinking about doing it i would say bring him with you to look at some RHD cars and let him find out for himself
ok heres the difference in RHD to LHD ifyour talking about swaping JDM motors… say you want like a stock 180sx…you first have to buy and pricey 240sx from here which are more expensive than a 180 to begin with…then you have to buy either a SR20DET or a CA18DET which both come stock in the 180sx…THEN you have to either pay for an install or do it yourself…
So heres a summary…
LHD
1990 240SX - $6000
CA18DET - $2000
or
SR20DET - $2500 - $3000
and this is without and mods or extras.
Rhd
1990 180SX - $7500
Comes with CA18 or SR20 and already is modded.
Take a look in the marketplace for what i am talking about SR powered 180 7000…CA18 powered 180 for 7500.
Just my 2 cents
The side you drive on really is irrelevant. Left hand turns are no biggie, if you can’t see because of a car blocking your line of sight, don’t go, that’s how it works in LHD as well. The only minor issue is passing on a 2-lane highway. Simple, hang far enough back so you have a good view then use that turbo power and punch it like Han Solo.

Yea it might be true.
But when you buy a JDM car you have no idea of the condtion of it and how it was treated before. Sure it might be modded but with some Skylines blowing up and CA’s as well you can’t be too sure.
Also when i look at some of the cars brought over some are mint but some are total POS’s. I would rather spend some more money and know i have a perfectly straight frame and an engine that was not beaten to a pulp.
But i guess it goes for most people that buy a JDM engine including me. :drinkers:
a used car is a used car doesnt matter what country it came from…
Well said.
Top Gunn, why aren’t you buying the car? You might get to pick what you want then.
If your dads buying you a car then I say he should buy you a nice cute NEON!!
I have had a RHD Silvia for approx. 5 months. I have not ever had a problem, and I have never wished i didn’t get it. I don’t try and show off, or attract freinds or chicks with my car. I just drive for my enjoyment and convenience and I love it. I have never had trouble turning or passing. All it takes is alittle patience and common sense. Are you a careful driver who doesn’t feel like getting lots of tickets and putting peoples lives in danger when you drive? If you are that kind of person then you will do fine!!
im still waiting to see a picture of somebody with a rhd going through mcdonalds in reverse, just to see the look on the emplyee`s face. :finga:
The thing that’s preventing me from doing this is the concrete curbs in the drive throughs. Why do they have to be so damn narrow!! I’d smack up my car on it for sure.
I was going to give my input, but it’s basically the same thing that silvia said
RHD rules!!
It took me 1 day to get used to. And making turns is all about patience and power! hehe…like Buddyworm said, punch it like Han Solo!! hahah…
But seriously, when I told my parents that I got a RHD Silvia they were all skeptical but then they saw the condition of the car and they were speechless but then again I’m one of the lucky people who get to find a good condition import!
Chris
Its not about him buying me the car its about it “being in his driveway”
is your dad one of those people that think all import cars are inferior to the big bad cavaliers and neons of america? I personally would be proud of my kid if he had something as sexy as a Silvia in my driveway!
if i was old enough to have a kid that was old enough to drive that is…
Drew
No, he likes domestic imports (uhhh) but he doesnt like the real imports.
maybe he’d be fine if you parked in front of the house or the neighbour’s house?
I always wondered how safe RHD cars are on the highway. Like honestly, how can you safely pass someone when you can’t see around the car infront of you (assuming you don’t have a passenger with you). That would be my only concern with it…
i usually go to the shoulder of the highway and then pass ahaha best way
I do half of my driving on the highway and I havent found a problem yet …just go until where you can see ahead and around the person then because most of the cars are turbo you can just pull away and pass
Yeah, I agree…
If your close to the car in front of you, then pull over to the right and take a look around them.
If your still aways back, then you can see way around them anyways, especially when there are constant rolling hills, if you can’t see around them you can see over them!
Plus, most roads (all the major ones) are designed to have alot of passing lanes and such. So alittle patience will get you too the next safe area to pass.
