Very true, most insurance companys do not like mods or won’t even cover you with mods.

And 240-sx, poor character, don’t go asking for parts when a guy is looking for help after an accident.

all the mods are really recent, so I don’t think there will be a problem. I just got the car in august, many of bigger mods are only weeks old.

No engine mods yet, specifically intake and exhaust which I am thankful for, since I was strongly thinking sr20 swap. Lots of stuff was done like wires and plugs, rotor, cap, coil, battery, starter, alt, clutch master, slave, lines, etc.

Doesn’t really mattered when you installed the mods, it is your responsibility to let the insurance company know as soon as you put a single mod on the car. On their side they only charged you insurance premiums on a stock 240, when you declare mods they can either charge you accordingly or tell you they can’t insure you with those mods. Technically in your insurance agreement that you signed they are not responsible for undeclared mods and can deny or drop you.

You can fight for more on market value on a stock vehicle no problem, like they offer $3800 for a stock 240 with xxxkms but all the cars on kijiji and autotrader are selling for $4500 you can use that information to ask for $4500 but trying to get money for mods you put in can get ugly.

Each insurance company is different but TD and Aviva have been known to downright deny insurance claims and/or cancel your policy as soon they find an undeclared mod.

Just saying be careful trying to get money back for those mods. Especially undeclared ones.

Asking for money back on undeclared mods is stupid. Your not insured for them, so don’t expect them to pay. Insurance companies are one of the world’s biggest and well run businesses (capitalism at its finest), they don’t get there letting shit like this slide. If they can void your contract, they will.

This is the risk we all take modding our cars. Best case scenario, buy your car back, salvage what you can and move on.

if the car has mods i would always buy it back. Even if you don’t make money off of it and just break even, at least the parts are still in the community, and not in the crusher!

I was involved in an accident with an uninsured farm vehicle last fall. I chose to settle cash with the other party instead of going through insurance. I didn’t want my policy being dropped after all my years with them because of a few modifications that had nothing to do with my accident. What I would recommend in your case is determining what you can salvage from the car to re-sell or re-use. In my case the engine was totally fucked but most of my other aftermarket parts were undamaged. I took a cash settlement, parted my car and scrapped the chassis. Worked out very well for me in the end.

Most insurance companies will allow you to buy the car back after writing it off for ~10% of the settlement. Ask about that.

I’m nervous driving a heavily modified car with the insurance companies unaware. Like has been stated they have the right to drop the claim/policy and even file for insurance fraud if they find you have lied about modifications. I’m waiting until I qualify for “Sunday driver” modified car insurance but unfortunately most of the people driving modified cars don’t meet the minimum age requirement.

we need insurance companies like the Aussies have. JustCarInsurance there is a company that specifically insures young drivers, and modified cars.

I’m pretty sure that there isn’t any requirement to declare them, since I was not insured to have my own vehicle fixed, and I havent done any “performance” modifcations to the engine, such as intake or exhaust. Since I only have basic coverage, if it was my fault, I get jack shit, in this case, its his fault, pay up for whatever I have on the vehicle. The other guy wasn’t insured, and is being a dick too, so I think it won’t be an issue.

seems pretty clean really.

ps- im over 6000 and climbing with my bills. putting an excel file together to submit.

I don’t think you understand how insurance in Ontario works. There’s no “he hit me his company pays” anymore. Every company pays their own clients’ claims. If he didn’t have insurance the only thing that will change is if you were to sue for personal injury past what YOUR insurance company will pay. In this case he would be on the hook instead of his insurance company.

Maybe not. We will find out in the next couple of days. Should be ready to send my stuff later today.

I know they plan on suing him for the money. Whether I get 8000 or 10000 is not the issue here, or at least they dont seem that concerned. I’m pretty sure the other guy is totally fucked since he was driving without insurance. Good luck to him trying to get an insurance company to cover him. I think he gets a 5000 fine for no insurance too.

oh im still entertained, just alittle misled but i accept your apology
