I was wondering what do people with ka-t do for etests? I don’t have to pass emission in QC but eventually it will be something required.
Sorry to thread jack. I failed emissions today cause the system couldn’t read my Carbs. They didn’t example the problem nor did they give me a sheet. Im guessing there is a hole in my exhaust correct?
+1
What do KA-T’ers do, no hot rod papers…
Just an update guys, despite the paper, a couple of shops were hesitant to put it as a hot rod. They know its engine was swapped, but I guess they still wanted me to fail so id have to buy a new cat or spend sum cash. I got fed up and took the car to dixie nissan and they tested it as a hot rod. IT PASSED!!! : )
I have had my 180sx e-tested twice and they had no values . I will be back and Ill post my numbers and limits I’m going to go to grab it from my glove box.

40 km/h
Limit Reading
HC ppm 318 170
CO % 2.52 0.19
NO ppm 3353 2610
RPM: 2699
Dilution 13.47
CURB IDLE
PASS
This is all with a safc II Tune, big injectors, gt28,fmic,z32 maf exhaust and no cat
It also states the Inspection type as I or l one or the other.
What if insurance DOES find out when you crash, I’m pretty sure they can refuse to payout for non disclosure of information. Can anyone confirm this? I have a rb20 swap going on should be done in september- oct, and if I want insurance this one company told me they need me to bring the car in to get inspected to make sure there’s no modifications so I think I have to be honest… fuck
Yea, this isn’t taking into account people that have just recently bought cars, and are being required to get appraisal’s and what not.
99% of us don’t have coverage if we crash our cars, just basic road insurance. Hence it doesn’t matter what we got, because insurance wouldn’t find out.
As far as your problem goes, your best bet might be to make your car look stock, most people can’t tell the difference between a straight 6 or inline 4 unless they are told. Or you could try finding someone in the import loop to appraise ur car and use that document to verify with insurance.
My ka-t passed fine with all the emissions stripped off the engine. I just simply put a cat back in the exhaust and it passed everytime i had it tested…
Yep, those are grey market limits.
I went to active green and ross for my etest, i had to tell them to use grey market limits when initiating the test.
I know it’s an old post.
- but i have a question in regards to getting a hot rod status,
& this seems like the right place to ask. - Its not a 240, but i have a car that i cant get to pass e-test,
its a 22 year old z24, yet not considered a classic, bcz its not pre-87
Would the guys over @ 401 Nissian be able to help me out?
I talked to some goof on the phone, no idea what i was talking about.
My readings are 2-3 times the limit, across the board.
If you have the stock engine, you’re fucked
yep, only way to have it tested as a hot rod is if you have a swapped motor, if not you’re SOL
A shop that actually knows, shud know that any vehicle that has a diferent engine other then the one it came from the factory gets tested as a hot rod, if u have a right hand drive it gets tested has a grey market. If they test it as a hot rod i see no reason why a sr20 wud fail
Does testing it as a hotrod cost any more than a normal etest?
Same price. If they say they need to charge you more tell them to s your d
Terrible1: rhd cars r tested as a 1980s car so ur nox limit is high as hell
^PARTIALLY true…
my broker told me as long I DO NOT change the number of cylinders they don’t care…
but if you swap a 4 cylinder for a 6 or 8… pretty sure insurance cares…
