Fashion thread: Dress shirts/suits

so true.

That black/brown guide pic is nice to have though, for the fashion impared.

on the chap with the yellow pants i believe he is wearing dark blue suede single monk-straps.

coloured shoes are mega hot… i’m not cool enough to pull off green or red leather but i might try it someday

Carmina bro:

elbow patches and yellow pants. I must be getting old, because i think these guys look ridiculous and would never be taken serious.

Green would be easy, red would be a tad harder. The green ones could be paired with charcoal or light grey easily I think.

If you’re buying off the rack, you’re fucking up. I have to wear suits every day so I used to buy off the rack. Then I got a taste of custom tailoring.

I used to get custom tailored by local folks, but the prices started getting outrageous ($250/shirt, $1,850/suit)

I have a dude from Hong Kong who travels the country, and every year when he pops in to Rochester I pick up a few custom suits and shirts from him. He takes your measurements, you pick the fabrics/patterns, give him your credit card, and a package arrives in the mail 12 weeks later.

I can hook you guys up with him if you actually care about how you look.

Well then…

I look good in my $60 express shirt and $40 dress pants, thank you very much.

Thanks Bing!

I understand this but wont be doing it and i’ll explain why.

I’ve seen guys who have done this and even though their suits do ‘fit’, technically speaking, they look okay but the suits are not ‘great’. In order to get to that price point you get it in fabrics and patterns that are typically low quality, cheapo buttons etc. but most importantly, and this is the same with old school tailors that i’ve tried locally, you cant get really nice (modern) cuts or detailing.

Every brand of suit has a different personality. A different cut through the torso, different shoulders, structured or unstructured, fully canvassed, half canvassed, un-canvassed, surgeon cuffs, lapel button holes, ticket pockets, the roll of the lapel etc. etc. unless the guys gives you a menu the size of a decent chinese food restaurant with 80 different boxes to check off i just dont see the huge difference in value.

i’m sure there are guys over seas that can create the perfect suit but if you were getting it in nice quality wool, silk or cashmere with all of the details that nicer suits have then the price would be in the thousands anyways.

the guys i know that have done this were using various people overseas and again, while the suits fit nicely, the final product is similar to a decent off the rack calvin klein and only lasts a couple years at best if worn regularly.

by contrast, if you slip on a current model Isaia, Brunello Cucinelli etc. off the rack in your size… the sleeves and pants are unfinished anyways… and that’s really all you need. not that i can afford that shit… but i tried a couple on recently and holy shit there is just so much going on with the garment that cant even be described unless you’re an experienced tailor… there is so much more than just measurements going on

Anyone have a recommended tailor that can do modern customizations (fitted suits, pants).

Also the point turbociv brought up about the yellow pants and elbow patches. I think that’s more business casual upgraded. It’s probably not something you’d wear to a board meeting. I still think it looks professional, in that it’s neat and tailored. Blue patches on a white suit are a bit of a stretch for me but it works if you are part of a drug cartel.

its more of a US vs. the World with regard to fashion and best articulated by Mr. Tom Ford:

from his wiki page.

btw, this isnt to say i agree with yellow pants

bobbygrv, shoes are looking good…

They make good casual Friday shoes at the office.

I wish I could find a nice pair of Allen Edmonds used. I’d be willing to pay in the low 100s for them.

Wife got me this sweet tie for xmas (we have a lab):

I have a pair of NIB Brown Allen Edmond Belmonts that are a 1/2 size too big, they are a 12, I usually wear a 12 but these were a bit too big for me for some reason. I tried them on once, and never returned them, I missed the return window

I’ll need an 11, thanks for posting though

^This thread reminded me that I need to put those on ebay.

I have 10.5 DDD I think they are. I didn’t know they were wide until after I bought them on eBay. Great condition, and actually fit normally pretty well.

I didn’t notice it posted yet, but you should all check out Bureau on Elmwood. My friend Jon is one of the owners, mention Dan Hagen sent you by.

I got 4 pairs offline for around that price each

where at? There is an outlet 45 minutes from my house, should I check there?
