Firestone for Inspection,

It’s long… cliff notes at the end for the lazy.
Saturday I went to get my car inspected… I stopped at goodyear and they were all booked up till sunday so I decided to go down the street to firestone… Big Mistake… I failed on 2 items… 1 was license plate light-bulbs… come on who fails inspection for that? The second item gets a big  from firestone… My brakes…
Firestone said my brakes failed because they were Way worn down… I said… I replaced my brakes last year… the first time they needed it since I owned the car (4 years now I think). I asked the guy if he was sure that they failed because I was 98% sure that they weren’t goign to fail… I checked before I brought my car in and could see plenty of pad… and I had tons of pad when I had the wheels off my car in late september. They said… oh no… you need brakes… we can do your front brakes… and make sure they don’t wear that fast when we do the full system flush, adjsutment and all the other crap they wanted to sell me for $300. I said no thanks… I’ll do em myself for oh… 120… including new rotors… not a re-surfacing of my old ones. I pick up the pads only on sat… and figure if I need rotors, I’ll grab em on sunday…
I get to my house today and pull off the wheels… and my my… the pads are almost as thick as the ones I pulled out of the box. I checked my passenger side just to check and make sure… Same result… pads almost as thick as the new ones. Juuust to make sure I call a few shops to ask what failure or front disk brakes are… THey tell me… Unless you are very close to steel to rotor contact than you are ok… Hmm… I’m VERY far from that point.
I cant believe that when I said I’d do it myself that they didn’t say… oh… well we’ll pass you because you are close to the tollerance or something to keep me from actually cecking my pads…

They also tried to tell me that my car could benifit from a fuel system flush and cleaning… only a meer $100, but it would save me money in gas and would pay for itself… For best results I should do it every 5000 miles… mind you my gas mileage hasn’t changed since I bought the car… They were telling everyone they called back about inspections about this… I just wanted to grab the phone from the guys hand andy say… dont do it… these guys are ripping you off… I also didn’t hear anyone who got a call back have an OK… you car’s ready… everyone had $500+ repairs that their cars needed. + all the “recomended” crap  to the max.

I’m going back tomorrow to have their "most reputable mechanic"who worked on my car take a look at it and explain to me how my pads failed… I’m thinking about charging them their labor rate for the 30 min i spent getting out the tools, jacking up my car… and for buying measuring and returning brake pads…

cliff notes: Went to firestone… they tried to rip me off by failing me for front brake pads… Front brake pads were almost as thick as new… Dont go here kuz they rip ppl off… I’m so pissed off I’m thinking about writing to the news about this…

did u check rears. if ur license plate bulbsout u fail letting people u dont know slide is dumb u can get fiend up the ass. iam not surprised they said that on the brakes. u were overdue wernt u? thats how they get u because then ur screwed with no sticker making u stick out like a soar thumb.

That’s some BS! I can see the bulb why the wouldn’t pass it, but why not just put another one in, they’re pretty standard and I can about gaurentee they had one laying around.

lol, should have called me instead of going to firebone

rear plate lights fail ONLY if both are out if two are present, or if the only bulb present is out…im sure they “had them in stock” but im guessing adam didnt want to shell like 10 bucks to have them do it

call “call 2 action” or “4 on your side” or whichever one sounds cooler, b/c they actually call the place right away on the claim

btw, which goodyear/firestone

and did i mention you should have come to see me

I’ve heard nothing good about Firestone. They seem to have a habit of preying on the clueless. If they say you fail because of the brakes, make them quantify it. Ask them what they measured the thickness of the pads at and what the allowable legal minimum is. :bloated:

I don’t get it. How did you miss the other threads with Firestone Horror stories? And you still went there?

metal to metal is failing

exactly unless it’s grinding you pass. and only one wheel needs to be pulled to check.

yeah i got fucked there on some repairs last year with my truck

EDIT: i fix shit myself now, shady shops suck ass

Where should he have gone to get inspected? :gotme:

goodyear :gotme:

:word:

someplace that can’t do a lot of work on your car that they can profit from… e.g., valvoline instant oil change

dude, ive gotten so many rejections from valvoline for the dumbest shit…b/c they know they can’t do the work so they dont give a fuck if it passes or not…

I went to your goodyear first… they were booked… and you weren’t there…
It was the firestone down the BLVD… the one on sheridan and the blvd.

Rick…
Apparently I didn’t read… or forgot about the previous firebone bonage that occured.

Oh… they would have replaced the lightbulb… $5 per bulb… and 10 min of labor for each!!!>. I bought both bulbs for $5… and replaced both in about 5 min.

It will be re-inspected… and will pass @ firebone… I called them yesterday and told them that I’d be coming in when the mechanic was in so I could ask him why he failed my brakes… then point out why my brakes passed. I do not expect to pay for re-inspection if the expect me to I will be stoping @ goodyear.

he wasnt at his goodyear because he is at a new location

yea adam, im over on sheridan drive now…across from another firebone…lol…

Thats because I made the last inspection appointment yesterday

your gonna have to pay to get in inspected again im thinking… sorry

my neighbor has his own shop and he knows a guy that’s a manager at a firestone, and he said firestone gives him a quota each month on how much money they should make.

wait…if you fail an inspection they still charge you?
