Flywheel : Good or bad? *pics* - 56Kgrabacoffee

Here are some high-res pics of my flywheel that I recently removed.
My motor has 155KM.

Now I know everyone will say “bah get rid of it and get a fidanza” or
whatever, but my pockets aren’t that deep so I want some assurance
that what I have here can be resurfaced and can be good to go.

I’m not gonna beat on the car or put down like 300hp or some shit.
Daily driver, with some occasional track time. Nothing involving clutch abuse.

I see some burn marks, and some stress cracks or whatever, but maybe
these are just normal? I mean what about those people that have 200KM+
on their cars and are most likely running the same clutch/flywheel.

I may buy a flywheel from someone (but he’s had 5000KM+ on it since he
resurfaced it, and 135KM in total). And I can’t imagine his being any
prettier then mine when he took his off. In anycase, I’m willing to take his
if someone can tell me what I have here is very dangerous.

I thought Adam H said last time your flywheel was toast?

Yea but this don’t look all that bad other then just some glazing. :dunno:
Plus he told me to get a Fidanza. :?

Those heat/stress cracks don’t look too good dude but at the same time don’t look too deep.

Get it resurfaced and see what turns out.

This is what mine looked like after I got it resurfaced:

It was off one of my parts cars and origionally had 220,000km
on it and looked almost as bad as yours did, minus the cracks…

use it then…its up to you

IMO it looks overheated and cracked like i stated before

My flywheel also looked like that when I replaced my clutch.
From the looks of it, there some pitting going on. That might created more unwanted heat spots.

I’d recommend replacing the flywheel if your planning to drive it for a while. Given the nature of us car enthusiest, your going to be harder on the driveline assembly than your average joe. Track time or spirited driving will put a lot of abuse on a clutch.
If it cracks, you’ll do more damage than saving a few dollars in your wallet. Bet you can pick up a decent flywheel for a few less than $60 anyways.

SHIFT_SR20DET, is there a reason why you had the flywheel resurfaced flat? How much was taken off?
Reason why I ask is that I was taught to never machine it flat. The friction disk will wear into the flywheel and create a groove.

Thanks, I think I will just look into an alternative over my flywheel. If the
price from Napa isn’t that bad ($200-$250 after tax/resurfacing) then I
will probablly do that.

Better to save myself hassle down the road anyways. I was kind of
expecting even a stock flywheel to be past the $300-$400+ range but I
think $200ish ain’t bad.

Will find out today. Thanks,

My flywheel was flat and it supposedly had 300+K on it, I wondered if it was original. I used a flywheel from an 89 on my 91.

oooooeeeee…

Bad idea…

The SOHC Flywheel is Stepped and that can result in premature clutch falieur.

If you use a SOHC Flywheel you need to use a SOHC clutch.

Unless you get that Step Removed…

Mechine it. Throw it on. Just measure it with the service manual for run out. We do it all day long at nissan.

I have seen rotors in better condition.
garbage save your self time and a body part.

flywheel is overheated an cracked, glazing is out the window like long time

I’m using a CenterForce DF Clutch kit. It’s the same product # from 89-95…

hahah!! damn you for having such a clean looking undercarriage! Mines all gross from oilspray

shouldnt a flywheel last the life of your car if you arent abusive to it?

Hey,

This is my opinion. Im not an expert, but I went in to get my clutch replaced (too much abuse… i love RWD!!!) and mine was toast too. A little worse than yours, w/ burns. And the way urs looks, I would get it done for reassurance and “clean feel” drive.
GOt the resurfacing done for pretty cheap ($75 after tax) but whos going to take the tranny down?? thats extra labour.

The part I didnt get is thatujust want to do that or u also looking into getting a clutch kit (just replacement, not performance).

Good luck
