Here are some high-res pics of my flywheel that I recently removed.
My motor has 155KM.
Now I know everyone will say “bah get rid of it and get a fidanza” or
whatever, but my pockets aren’t that deep so I want some assurance
that what I have here can be resurfaced and can be good to go.
I’m not gonna beat on the car or put down like 300hp or some shit.
Daily driver, with some occasional track time. Nothing involving clutch abuse.
I see some burn marks, and some stress cracks or whatever, but maybe
these are just normal? I mean what about those people that have 200KM+
on their cars and are most likely running the same clutch/flywheel.
I may buy a flywheel from someone (but he’s had 5000KM+ on it since he
resurfaced it, and 135KM in total). And I can’t imagine his being any
prettier then mine when he took his off. In anycase, I’m willing to take his
if someone can tell me what I have here is very dangerous.
My flywheel also looked like that when I replaced my clutch.
From the looks of it, there some pitting going on. That might created more unwanted heat spots.
I’d recommend replacing the flywheel if your planning to drive it for a while. Given the nature of us car enthusiest, your going to be harder on the driveline assembly than your average joe. Track time or spirited driving will put a lot of abuse on a clutch.
If it cracks, you’ll do more damage than saving a few dollars in your wallet. Bet you can pick up a decent flywheel for a few less than $60 anyways.
SHIFT_SR20DET, is there a reason why you had the flywheel resurfaced flat? How much was taken off?
Reason why I ask is that I was taught to never machine it flat. The friction disk will wear into the flywheel and create a groove.
Thanks, I think I will just look into an alternative over my flywheel. If the
price from Napa isn’t that bad ($200-$250 after tax/resurfacing) then I
will probablly do that.
Better to save myself hassle down the road anyways. I was kind of
expecting even a stock flywheel to be past the $300-$400+ range but I
think $200ish ain’t bad.
This is my opinion. Im not an expert, but I went in to get my clutch replaced (too much abuse… i love RWD!!!) and mine was toast too. A little worse than yours, w/ burns. And the way urs looks, I would get it done for reassurance and “clean feel” drive.
GOt the resurfacing done for pretty cheap ($75 after tax) but whos going to take the tranny down?? thats extra labour.
The part I didnt get is thatujust want to do that or u also looking into getting a clutch kit (just replacement, not performance).
