Yeah, modding a GA is stupid…mod a Grand Prix…lol. I dont care what anyone says, I like my car.
Deep down I hate myself for building a ~moderatly~ fast FWD car, when I could have built a faster RWD car for the same money…but I am happy with it, and like be ing able to go `modratly~ fast without turning too many heads.
as much as i love snowboarding and snowmobiling, winter sucks sunroof out with the tunes up is the only way to roll springs almost hear and :tup: to a clean car i always liked white with the smoked headlights to each his own and good luck.
who cares, its your car… if you want to mod it, then do it… some people mod hondas, i think thats stupid, but whatever, its their cars 
Nice car, clean. I had a white 96 gt with the 2.4l. I was 17, It was the fastest car ever to me…
Once I traded it in they didn’t have manual transmissions, so I moved on. I really liked my grand am.

actually…the cavalier fits the bill perfectly. anyone who has had one (i’ve had 3) will agree they were the epitome of crappy.
i wasnt implying that dropping money into any car was a good investment. this guy has performance expectations so im trying to persuade him not to waste his money on something that cannot obtain those expectations. you own a vette…you should understand that. im not trying to start a cock measuring contest about which manufacturer is better. the grand am is not a good performance oriented platform, it was never intended to be. and its no different for camrys, accords, and altimas. just use the car for what it is and save your money for a better platform. thats the hardest thing to do for any auto enthusiast. and im no different, i turned my daily driver into a track car that spends more time in the garage than on the road.
ohh and btw, if you check out any high school parking lot you will see that there are boat loads of grand am’s usually with tints, loud stereo’s, euro tail lights, wings, and stickers. so they are certainly one of the average 18 y/o “cool” cars.
I have a SD hood for it. The SC/T hood is nice too. But I got the SD from M&M for $25, ha. Who ever had a Black GAGT with the SC/T kit F’ed it up good. A Rare find in a junk yard around here.
I don’t think I would make a swap because of the Emissions Laws and the whole ECMs-vs-ECUs-vs-SES, Thank you NYS, and the fact that I drive this for fun more than race it. I know I could make it work if I researched it enough.
I have seen a 3800 dropped in realitively easy. Also, An Eaton M62 Supcharger on the 3400 with a 4T65E (3800) Tranny (Mirrored off of GMs SC/T Concept). No doubt it would be cool to drive a GAGT with 275+ HP with the M62 and some goodies as opposed to the Bone Stock 175 HP.

d3x, I couldn’t agree with you more. It is not a track car. It is not a drag car. It will live on the roads and the highway. That’s it. I know it will never be anything other than a 15 second car. It’s about the ride. If I throw a little cash into it to make it different than most GA’s then it is custom. That’s all I want. Just like you. No one has your car.
So, when I pull up next to an 18 y/o with the loud ported box with L7s I can just laugh to myself and drive away.
But, I can’t challange you at all. You are 100% right. Why waste the money? I really don’t know, probably because it feels good to work on my car.

i use to drive a grand am…and i use to think it was cool too…so i can’t really flame. then i realized that i could spend half of what i spent on the pontiac on a bit of an older car, and get 10X more performance and a 10X better platform than the grand am ever woulda been…

I’m ~pretty~ sure you could pass inspection with a supercharged 3800 (or even better a supercharged short block, n/a heads, intake manifold, and a turbo kit but, thats really extreme :shoot: lol)
I say that it is should pass inspection since I swapped a supercharged 3800 into my '96 Grand Prix that came with a 3100. The wiring wasn’t bad at all (but, I’m into electronics so…lol) I even had the PCM VIN match the car, had the codes turned off for things that differed from the donar car to the 96 GP. I pass inspection for 5yrs. without problems. There are a few other 3800 swapped “pre97” grand prixs with 3800’s that pass inspection. You could also turbo the 3400 BUT, the internals do handle too much power and either does the trans.
If you’re happy with the performance then thats fine too. My friend had a GA/GT and he just put a set of Eibachs on it, a SLP exhaust, a CAI, 180t-stat, and few other cheap “free” mods and he was happy as can be.
Lots of people say the negative things like its not worth it, pick a better platform, ect just want you to do what makes THEM happy, what doent annoy THEM. My “opinion” is, if its not rice, no big wing, ect. I’m fine with it.
OH! and to hell with the M62…go with the 3800’s M90
