One of my coworkers just had a car failed due to tints. He was yelling at some poor shop guy for like 30 minutes.
As a software guy I immediately checked this for proper matching of parentheses. Well done.
took my truck to friends place, 35% on glass. he said just say i got pulled over after the inspection.
Along the same train of thought… are side windows even required for a NYS inspection?
I know they have the requirement for safety glass and light transmittance and the presence and condition of a windshield, but at a quick glance I don’t see anything that says a vehicle must have side windows. You could just take them out for the inspection and not bother installing the “inspection windows”.
Put them down, pull fuse for motors.
Simple. I love it.
For the first time in my life, I want a bro jeep. Tint it out then take it in without there doors on. What would they do?
I’m being lazy here, is it just a visual inspection for tint?
Most of my cars didn’t have catalytic converters but my friend would pass me. Just curious if this can be done too with tint. My GTO has tint, not that I put it on, but it’s there and I don’t feel like taking it off.
They use a meter on the glass.
But is it up to the technician to enter it in the computer, or is the device connected and is automatically entered and can fail me?
Can the technician just use it on say my windshield and pass my car?
Not sure at this moment. But I have a few “places” that should pass it. I’ll be taking the truck soon to be sure.
I was in the shop when my friend did mine. It’s a hand held meter like what the police use. It’s just a added check line in the inspection list on the computer. Tech just clicks passes tint test.

Well that’s good, I should be able to have a friend hook me up then.
So i should post the notice the dmv gave me.
but if your windows don’t work (and they should) you fail inspection (so yea they covered the pull the fuse thing.)
the meter the dmv made us buy is a 2 piece and can be put on any piece of glass. anywhere on the glass so.
and yes at the moment you just click a box that says the glass is ok. (its actually the same box that i would use to report a broken windshield)
i think im also buying a wrangler lol. because removing doors seems to be the only loop not covered.
My regular mechanic, who I would call a friend, is not willing to risk trying to get around this issue. I don’t blame him. Fucking state aholes.
My inspection is up so I removed mine this weekend. Not happy about it but its better than getting a ticket for expired inspection and tint. Used a cheap Walmart steamer and had the front off in about 20 mins.
