Fuse box relocation?

I have an S14 SR swapped into my S13, and I’m looking to delete/remove all of the plugs and wires that I am not using to simplify my wiring. I don’t have ABS, AC, radio, heater core (I am putting in my own heating source) windshield wiper tank/pumps, hicas, antennae, etc etc. So I’m just running the necessities. This may sound like a stupid question, but why do I always see people re-locating their fuse boxes to the inside of the car? Especially race cars I don’t care about the aesthetic improvements, at all, I’m just wondering whether there is any good reason to do this. Keep in mind, my car will see very little, if any, street time. Like I said, I plan on leaving it where it is, and just removing all of the stuff I don’t use to simplify it, since I have leftover plugs/connectors everywhere! Thanks in advance

well by the sounds of it…it would be illegal for it to see street time

Yeah, it would. It would not pass e-test or safety for sure! But I’m not an idiot. I’d only drive it when it’s nice out. As long as I’m not endangering others on the road, then I don’t care what is legal/illegal. Big difference between not passing safety because your car has almost no brakes, and not passing because it does not have a windshield washer pump and fluid. The only thing is, getting caught without these things by MTO. And like I said before, that is a risk I take.

lol wut. I see two questions here, and a confusing thread title.
are you asking how to do a re-locate? or how to strip your harness of those plugs ?
if you’re looking to delete plugs, just strip your harness of those plugs and wires. as far as physically removing them. Not sure how your ecu will like that or how it’d be affected, afaik I remember reading something about popping in a resistor when doing plug deletes or anything along those lines.

Sorry, you’re right. I guess my question is… What would be the proper and most painless way or getting rid of all the wires that are not used? Also, why do racecars have their fuse boxes in the interior? Too much heat in the engine bay? Ease of access? Hmm… I wouldn’t do it, even though my car will be tracked a lot, but just a thought.

I was told to just leave it all in, and tuck anything that is not used, away. Because no one will be able to help me with wiring if I ever come across a wiring problem.

I did all of this to my last street car! everything still worked perfectly fine, if you know what you are doing with wiring you will not have an issue. If you are not good with wiring do not even attempt as things can go sour quickly! The reason I relocated my fusebox and wiring inside the car is because nissan decided to run the body harness in the wheel wells which sucks when you are low and track your car, water travels down the wires the connectors and corrodes, wide wheels will rub through the harness and cause issues. So i didnt want any wiring exposed!! i street drove and even daily drove the car for 3 years, with none of the things you mentioned! Oh and if you have to ask what the best way to get rid of the unnecessary wiring is, then you probably should NOT attempt it!

Thanks for the input! Good to know it’s still maintains street-ability after all that. But you have to start by asking, no? No one’s just born with the ability to relocate a fuse box lmao. I’m looking to do this next year, so that is plenty of time to learn all about it no? So lead me in the right direction, as in, point out a general plan which I should research further, and pursue.

My best advice is start learning about electricity before attempting it! once you understand how it all works, it will be easy, just time consuming! Good luck! There is always more wiring harnesses out there if you mess up the first one so dont be shy, just have an understanding before digging in.

Yeah, that’s sound advice! I understand the basics, but I’m no expert. I learn by doing lol. So, if I do end up deleting, as in, de-looming and taking out all the not used circuits, everything should still work fine, right?

yeah it should. Just double check that you are removing the right circuits and take your time. Make sure that you seal any wire ends that you snipped if you are not reconnecting them. Not hard to shorten the blue wire or lengthen the green wire, lol.

Solder wire connections wherever possible. the tape wrapping on 20 years old wires is shiz anyways, so delooming and rewrapping is a good idea.
