Pine trim around the doors, pine crown molding, and oak plywood (not up yet) wrapping the beam will be stained a reddish-brown cherry color.
Debating whether to paint the wood around the garage doors or stain it. I started filling in the million nail holes with stainable putty so it’s still open at this point. I think stain would hide all the hammer marks and imperfections, but not sure how it would look with that color all the way around the doors.
Also haven’t decided on baseboard. Probably stained 1x10 pine boards, although I’d like to do aluminum diamond plate, but too much money.
If your walls are suspect use a high hide ultra white exterior flat paint. If you a dark paint that’s shiny it’ll show all the bad spots in your drywall/framing work.
Need to decide on baseboard. 8" high to cover the block & sill plate. I’d like to do aluminum diamond plate, but my wife isn’t sure how it would look with the wood (kind of a reddish brown, see pics below). What do you think?
My fall back is 1x8 C grade pine with a routed edge stained the same color, which of course doesn’t stain as nice as the oak on the beam.
That looks sweet man. Finished garages are so nice. Hoping to build a garage addition next year with a lift and everything.
This one is my inspiration:
Really nice work and I’m sure you’re gonna love it. I’d kill for that kind of room in my garage. Where do you get all of your wood trim?
btw i used to have that same black craftsman setup. i was pissed off one day, looking for something, starting pulling all the drawers open and the thing flipped over
Finally finished the baseboard and quarter round. Just need to fill in the nail holes, hide the garage door sensor wires in channels, and clean the sawdust off the floor and everywhere else. The man doors can wait until spring to be painted.
