got ya, thanks!
I used to do that years ago. Might be a better way someone else might have though.
Also this thread is depressing. Damn forester xt gets 18mpg avg. Luckily I only drive like 5-6k a year.
same here my rs gets like 18 as well. And I only drive 4-5k. Oh well just gotta remind yourself that its awd to justify it. But for me in the spring if i finally land a new job im buying a cr-z lol
Thats a pretty good point as long as diesel stays higher than gas. It might make many rethink paying the premium for a used TDI. I have thought about getting something more mpg friendly lately myself, but really dont have the room to have another vehicle around.
My GTI in the winter gets 320ish to the tank. Think its a 13.5-14 gallon tank.
Even some hybrids require premium, which is ~5-8% reduction in comparable efficiency.
If I’m driving conservatively on the highway in my 2000 Corolla (which happens rarely), I can squeeze 40+MPG. I’ve only hit it a few times, 41 being my best.
just picked this up last night. the last 100 miles my average is 44 mpg. and thats mostly stop and go city miles. good stuff
This thread is killing me. I’ve been going back and forth on this idea for a while now. Having something with some utility and great gas mileage would be ideal. AKA A3/Golf TDI. I just wouldn’t want to get out of the fun car game completely.
Time to start doing some math…
this thread is killing me as well.
I’m getting 14mpg avg in my f-150, mostly due to my very short drives. My home-work commute is 2.1 miles which I make this trip 4x a day(to work, home for lunch, back to work, then home). 3x a week I drive maybe 8 miles to the gym and back. I see practically zero highway time. My mom has the exact same truck getting 17.5mpg cause she does about 60% of her driving on the highway.
my focus SVT gets about 26mpg spirited, and about 32mpg when I’m really pussy-footing it.
i usually see 41 ish
also, I like BigRon’s formula.
edit: for any future MISERS… I may be forced to sell this car later this year
how do you get 36mpg in the S?
Im at 27-28
I find it near impossible to achieve the Highway MPG sticker rating on anything I have ever driven, Nyspeed must have some the best hypermilers in the nation.
unless there is something wrong with a car you should always be able to beat sticker.
just be on summer gas, in top gear, set cruise at 55mph and drive for an hour on a road with no turns or traffic.
nice mpg’s some of you are getting. i drive alot, but practicallity outweighs gas mileage for me. my truck avg’s 20mpg and im content with that.
any of you diesel guys running offroad diesel in your cars? the farmers i know tend to do it alot with some of their trucks lol
Do you drive all highway in your hemi ram to get 20mpgs, I mean your truck has a rating of 14/20
im about 50-70% highway, 30-50% city depending on the week. rcsb 2wd with 3:55 gears on 20" wheels. all stock except for a muffler. i think the 2wd plays a big part in getting good mileage for a truck.
This thought did once cross my mind… but having a diesel tank next to my garage in a suburban neighborhood with the only thing we own is a diesel car would not really be a good cover story LOL. The fines for this are pretty big too if I recall correctly.
The Jizm used to get 35+ when I bought it, but I’ve beat the living FUCK out of this car in two years. Haven’t replaced a damn thing, still has a check engine light and I don’t get a flying fuck about it.
Still manages 28-29 MPG.
