Give me a run down

Ok, so I’m debating if I want to go turbo for next summer for my nx2000. I’ve been doing some reading on it but im not finding to best info. I’ve read that doing it in steps is the best for example

"Step 1: The first thing you should do is put in the clutch. Break it in 500 miles. No less, and baby it. After 500 miles, test it. If it seems EXACTLY how you want it (clutch cable adjustment, no gritch, etc) then go to step 2.

Step 2: Get the proper JWT ECU/injectors/MAF combination and install them, NA. Run that around for a week or so, again, WITH NO TURBO SYSTEM. If this runs well, then go to step 3.

Step 3: If you are installing cams, do that next. I expect the ECU has the S3/S4 program already in you ECU that you installed in Step 2 so your idle will be good. And it’s NOT JUST FOR YOUR IDLE QUALITY, it’s ALSO to make it easier to set your timing properly!!!

Step 4: Now, and only now, is it time to install your turbo system. Manifold, turbo, oil feed and return lines (drilling and tapping could have been done anytime in the past, but it’s ok to do it here too), intake and intercooler piping, wastegate (if external), recirculation valve (have to be politically correct in the Nissan world, can’t call it a blowoff valve), boost gauge, downpipe, possibly more gauges. Now if it doesn’t run right, it can be attributed to the mere components you just installed."

What I’d like is if someone could give me a general cost estimate for a proper job. What I’d like to swap a gti-r sr20det… If I had the hood from a gti-r could I use the TMIC?

Thanks for entertaining a turbo dummy

I’m confused… are you swapping in an sr or are you turboing your engine.

swapping

Than I believe you wan’t a Bluebird sr20… GTI-R is AWD.

You have a NX2000 but your putting in another SR20, even thought it comes with one? You could use either GTiR or Bluebird variants of it just use the transmission from the orginal motor. You MAY need the correct bell housing to make it work.

As for the hood / top mount intercooler question, I don’t think hoods remotely match. Just route a nice front mount intercooler as it will work better. Engines get hot, Hot air rises and where does your intercooler sit if you have a top mount? Also unless the vehicle is moving they have an even lower ability to remove heat with next to no air flow. Many U12/13 Bluebird owners make that their first upgrade because of the lack of any vent on the hood.

As for cost, 2000 or so according to JDM Source for the motor plus labour, tuning and incidentals. So I put it done properly at about the 4.5-5 grand mark.

I meant that I wanted to swap in a sr20det or some sort, I have seen some cars with the gti-r hood, but I’m not sure if they needed to get it fabricated, althouh 2 of the 3 I’ve seen had FMIC.

Anyways I appreciate you giving me a rough price estimate. I want to do this right and not have a car that I generally have to worry about due to not having it done properly

This would be a cool swap to see. I haven’t seen an nx2000 with fwd SR20det yet.
