well is anyone in for a laugh?
I have 2 friends and they drive 5th and 6th gen civics. After hearing me badger them about their cars for so long they have decided to do something a little outrageous. They bout plan on putting the blue birds SR20DET into their cars. as akward as this is I need to ask a favor. Does anyone know where we can get some more info on how to do this. The 3 cars have become our winter projects. Thanks and sorry
Civics aren’t Nismo, they should be parked.
Right?
Why do that? For the cost involved they could easily turbo thier own cars and make equal power?
Unless they were going to do something really wacky and convert to RWD – I just don’t think they will be proving anything??
Bluebird sr20s are front wheel drive. It can be done, I remember seeing a S2000 with an SR in it before, there will be a lot of custom work required though and it will end up costing big bucks unless they can do the fabbing themselves.
another option is the S2000 powertrain conversion. IIRC it’s a fairly straight forward job on an Integra, so should be similar with the civics.
They did it in F&F, must be an awesome idea. :thumright:
i agree with you on that but if a honda is powered by Nismo I would have more respect
we are doing all the fab work ourselves like with the motor mounts and custom wiring the ecu to match the Honda. We figured everything out price wise and it will only cost about 2000-2500 for all parts and everything big prob now is finding the wiring diagrams for both ecu’s. anyone know where I could find it?
Personally, I think your idea sounds like a lot of fun, a good challenge. I just quoted your sig, that’s all.
Good luck if you go ahead and let us know how it goes.
I’m thinking of changing my sig how does
If its not Nismo or Nisho it shoule be parked
hey all, as Nismo_only said, we would appreciate any help at all. As I am mostly just familiar with honda motors, and looking into doing this swap. Sure would appreciate any help given. Nismo_only is my nissan tech right now, and I will be relying on him greatly. If everything goes well, next summer we will have alot of fun at the track, and hopefully come out to next years son meet!
As far as concerns go, mounting brackets will be needed, alot of patience doing that and wiring the ecu.
You might also want to look into the gtir engines.
The only porblem with the GTiR is the fact that it only came AWD and we are looking at keeping it FWD which is why we thought the Bluebird would be a good choice. As far as performance what was the difference between the Bluebird and the GTiR engine? Would it be better to get the GTiR and put a tranny from the NX2000 or Bluebird?
I know someone with a gtir in an nx2000, so that tranny should work well. The nx2000’s came with sr20de engines so a lot of the parts should be interchangeable as well. The gtir engine has a ballbearing t28 turbo as well as a few other upgrades over the bluebird engine. gtir has 227 horsepower iirc.
You take the GTi-R’s AWD tranny off and slap on a FWD SR20DE tranny from a G20/NX2000/200SX SE-R or 1999+ Sentra SE 2.0
I don’t know 100% but I don’t think they sold any FWD SR20DET powered cars, all of them were AWD but FWD based.
As well, the GTiR has the best valvetrain out of all the SR20s.
And stock quad-throttle bodies!
So wait… When it’s done, it’ll be just like any other honda, but fast?
noc don’t the Bluebirds have fwd dets?
Nope, all the turbo Bluebirds were ATTESSA awd.
There’s FWD CA18DETs for sure, and I’ve seen FWD SR20DET manifolds for sale, but that doesn’t really mean much. Apparently they exist in a few cars, but most are AWD
I guess get an AWD SR20DET motor, and just use an NX2000 tranny, pray it holds together.
getting the axles the right length could be interesting …
it depends on how far they’re willing to go to make it work.
An NX2000 is still pretty big compared to a Civic, wheelbase will be a pretty big PITA to get right.
But hell, if you can put a Mopar 440 in a CRX and make it work, you can do it with an SR.
