Good Brand of Battery?

I need a new one…any ideas of what kind i should get?

Go with a red or yellow top optima battery

some info would help like what car/year what your budget is are you or do you plan on running a big stereo set up or electronics resulting in a high current draw or do you want something small and space/weight saving
optima 's are awesome i run one but there not cheep (but worth it)
or you could go to the junk yard and get a used one for like $20

Im runnig an amp…9 neons…andi think 1 or 2 more things thats why i wanted a strong battery…i think ill go with optima…thats what i had in mind to get…oh and my car is a 91 240sx…im going this weekend to get it …what is the difference between a red top and a yellow top one? there also like…blue ones too…?

The differece is the amprage, the yellow top having the highest in amprage i beleave.

for your application go with yellow top. Its a bit more expensive than the redtop and u can get them at costco.

costco optimas are bottom of the barrel product,

call me at my shop on tuesday

905 836 0600 we stock them.

you will probly only need a red top your not running anything scary

I didnt kno anyone handpicked batterys from the optima supplyer. Wether or not their all the same from costco or yourself GT the yellow tops are better as they hold their charge a bit better than the redtops and have higher C.C.A. We had a 800cca yellow top sitting for a few months only ever used it to boost cars in the shop and after we boosted a car and let it charge the batt a bit before we disconected it we got just over 1100cca…consitered the batt is only rated at 800. Secondly after doing co op for 6 months we had 2 redtops returned within that period and no problems with yellowtops of about a dozen optimas sold in total. The yellows sold like hott cake. Downside from getting a yellow over a red…u gota give it a real nyce slow and long charge. Yellows can handle more vibrations as well which has sumthing to to with the life of the batt…Im not a specialist on this topic but ive seen which works better. Yellows are more $$ too…Maybe they jack the price up cuz its yellow?? ive seen that its a better battery than the redtop so its not cuz its just yellow.

the yellow is just a deep cycle battery

meaning it doesn’t mind getting discharged and recharged as much or as often.

meaning it’s for cars with big thumpin audio systems.

Optima yellow top it is then guys…they hav them at wal mart here…i think ill pick it up this weekend since my car is sitting in storage with no battery lol…thnaks for your help!

How does that work ??

batteries are constantly hand picked for use…

duracell, energizer, sanyo, etc etc…

they all come from the same place… gp batteries…

after they select the batteries from test batches that came out with the best over all numbers the “remains” go to other low end battery labels…

rayovac,ANY heavy duty labeled battery… etc

the same goes for optimas… costco buys a bajillion batteries from a lot of 2 bajillion… some of the batteries in that stack will be good… most will be the ones from the ‘other’ pile…

now im not saying they are crap. im saying that they will probly not last as long over all as say one from a local shop who goes through keystone… keystone gets first crack at the batteries…

but all this doesnt matter if you dont care if you get 4 or 6 years out of the battery…

as for red/yellow… the yllow top is good for high draw applications… the redtop is for smaller systems and people who just want the dependability… the other thing is that the redtop actually has more CCA (cold crank amps)
