well yesterday i went to tow a vehicle… the key wouldnt turn and the car was obviously stuck in Park… so i back up behind it to tow it in the flatbed, and go under the hood and pop the linkage… well in the process i broke the linkage :nono:
i get a phone call today from my supervisor
ken “tell me what happened with this impala”
me “well i snapped the linkage because i didnt think dragging it onto the truck would be good”
ken “well its gonna cost $140”
me “OK”
ken “well Dave (the service manager) is going to give it to you at cost”
me “im not paying for it”
ken “well im not paying for it”
me “didnt say you had to but you never made anyone else pay for their damages”
ken “well you dont pay for it you dont work”
me “you firing me?”
ken “well you dont pay for it you dont work”
me “you firing me?”
ken “yes”
me “well you want me to take the truck back?”
ken “yes”
me “ok” hung up phone.
never have been fired before in my life… been with them for 3 years and never have had to pay for a damage… no matter how small or how large. my fault or not(was in an accident that totaled over 30K bucks,not my fault though hit by drunk driver)
definately not a reason to let me go… we are so understaffed right now. i was working 65+ hours for the past 2 years. we just had a hard worker move to our other garage and ours was suffering as is. i am the only one that has been at this garage for the whole time that it was open. i am also the only one that gets there at 7am to sign everyone on by 7:15 to get the “bonus” from AAA so they will suffer from that.
Doesn’t sound horribly beyond resolution. Sounds like you might be able to get back in there if you wanted to and the situation was discussed with cooler heads. Thats a pretty extreme reaction by your company

that sucks dude. that lady you towed for that work with me down PNC said you were like the best tow truck driver she’s ever had. she was like he knew what he was doing.
i stayed at a holiday inn express the night before she was there forever also. i didnt get the call until it was 30 minutes old. someone else had it then the tow dest of their other tow changed and he wouldnt beable to get there in a short time. she was really nice… big ole caddy :reloading
sucks man… maybe you should persue your career! i remember you posting about it years back. I’ve never been fired… fuck places that treat situations like that.
wow, that sucks. im sorry Mac. But you dod have a new and better job coming so it all works out. besides, now you wont have to double all the time like you said. no worries, their loss.
id understand if it was like that for other people or even myself in previous expierences. one guy did 7 damages in 7 months. mine was 1 lil damage this year and they jumped down my throat. just because they want to start something new… dont start it on me. :finger2:
