government steals basketball hoops

I am going to buy a couple “clubs” on ebay and go put these on the hoops by the zoo

Short answer, because I can’t stand douchebags who think they’re above the law and should always have an exception made for them.

60 years ago you wouldn’t have a personal injury attorney suing the town for millions when a kid got hit by a car just because the basketball net was facing the street. /story.

Is anyone else surprised that the kids/families are WHITE?

I must say I agree. Well said. Check and mate IMO.

+1 to this

Face Palm

The fucking thing has been there for 60 years. It’s not like they put it in a year ago and were like HA let’s see the state do something about THAT. All they want is for their kids to be able to play basketball. It’s a freaking quiet cul-de-sac not a major four lane road.

Furthermore I don’t see how they can be “douchebags who think they’re above the law”. Some asshole neighbor of theirs complained to the town probably without consulting them which is usually what happens in suburban neighborhoods. Guarantee you the state wouldn’t have done that if the neighbor hadn’t complained. Also kid’s play in the street that’s life in suburbia. If you didn’t grow up in a rural area or on a farm I highly doubt you can say you never played in the street. If you try to claim that then you’re a liar and probably a hypocrite.

I know you have children and I’m sure at some point they will ride their bike or play out in the street without you being aware of it. Doubt you’d find it funny if one of them got hit by a car.

Lastly the personal injury attorney example is dumb. Liability clearly isn’t the reason why the state came and did this. The guy with cane could just as easily walk across the street to go to the mailbox then get hit by a car and sue the town for the mailbox placement or some other ridiculous thing that isn’t logical like many lawsuits these days. Maybe we should ban walking in the street too…

I can move this to PolitiSUCK at any time Jay, lol.

I like the reason that they removed the hoops. “Your safety” LoL Fuck the police.

This is total bullshit, if it is because kids are playing in the street the cops should ticket the parents of every kid caught on the street period. It is a neighborhood, kids play street hockey, roller blade, bike, hide and go seek, whatever get over it. If you don’t like it move to the country or something.

I also agree that they should have their due justice, just as the parents aren’t above the law the state shouldn’t be either. Why don’t they get in trouble for straight up lying to the parents.

It pisses me off that there are government officials even concerned with issues like this at all. Instead judges should be tossing out stupid lawsuits such as ones mentioned above. How about doing something that actually helps our country out for a change?

yeah because white kids have never played basketball in their life…larry legend shakes his fancy mustached face at you

That wasn’t a poke at racism actually lol, I meant it in a sarcastic “white trash” kind of way  did you SEE that lady? Haha.

If that was me and I had a front lawn big enough i’d make a basketball court out of it.

LOLLLLLLLL

Anyone else find it disgusting how the officer blatantly lied about giving the property back?

this thread makes me sad. this is whats wrong with america. i dont think any of this is funny, and if we were to realy follow “every single law” to the T, none of us would make it a single day without getting arrested.

It’s unreal to me that a few of you don’t understand this.

These people don’t own the land they have a basketball net on. It doesn’t matter how long it’s been there because it’s still a town right of way. Since it’s a permanently installed structure on town property THE TOWN is liable for it. You know what “for your safety” really translates to? “So we won’t get sued by one of you assholes when someone gets hurt”.

Would I rather live in a country where these nets could remain and a person who tried to sue the town if their kid got hurt playing ball at one be stoned in the town square for the stupidity of their lawsuit? Definitely, but that’s not the country we live in. We’re a country that requires the first 78 pages of my car’s owners manual be devoted to how to put on a seatbelt because if it was one page someone would wrap it around their neck and sue Nissan when they were paralyzed in a crash. So no, I can’t blame the town one bit.

In for you making a custom reinforced pole that they can mount on their property and to reach out to the street again.

That guy should of told them to stick their property up their ass and to come mow their property every week then.

seriously, if you decided to leave the grass uncut you bet your ass they would be there writing citations. The town owns the sidewalks too, so how come when theres cracks i need to repair them? why do i have to shovel my sidewalks if there owned by the town, and why do i get sued if someone slips and hurts themselves on this town owned property? gotta love double standards.

Because that’s the law. You could try to get the law changed, then your taxes will be raised to pay for someone to come cut/maintain that piece.

Is that fact? I know people that have sued the city for a fall taken because of sidewalk issues. Specifically tree roots lifted a pad and they broke their foot on the drop off somehow. 8/
I’ve never understood that front sliver being maintained by the owner yet they don’t own it. Odd.
