government steals basketball hoops

You get sued for an improperly maintained sidewalk because YOU are responsible for maintaining it. That’s why the city/town comes around every so often and notifies homeowners that they either need to fix their sidewalk or the town will do it for $XYZ per square and bill them. They have an interest because it is their property so a lawyer is going to sue them too, even though the easement agreement states the homeowner must maintain the sidewalk. I guess no one reads the really fine print when buying a house huh?

If the damage to the sidewalk is caused by tree roots popping up the cement from a tree planted on that town right of way piece of property you can petition the town to remove the tree prior to making the repairs. That’s what my neighbor did to get a big tree taken down and suggested I do the same. Personally I like the old growth trees in my neighborhood and would rather deal with fixing my sidewalk once every decade or so.

Fine print is for fggts and America is a bunch of pussies. Always looking to fucking sue for everything. Like you said…owners manuals are 10x as thick because they need to cover themselves over moronic people and their stupid actions.
I despise lawyers, big bankers, insurance companies (especially medical). In no particular order. LOL
Our legal system is fucking retarded and 90% of the shit they deal with should probably be thrown out at square 1.

SIGH

Town of Tonawanda cut down all the hoops in the town, except one…Across from the police station.

This is pretty petty though. I mean honestly they solved all the major issues and ran out of stuff to do? They couldn’t give like a months notice or at least let them relocate the nets?

  1. They did not actively seek out offenders, someone complained. After a complaint, they are obligated to take action.
  2. They gave them plenty of notice.
  1. They aren’t obligated to do so right away without notice. Usually they give notice. I didn’t see anything in the video, other than they thought the issue was still pending, that indicated there was a time line.
  2. Again I must have missed the part where they said we will be removing the nets at this date and time and you will not get them back.
  3. I’d love to live in a town/city where finding basketballs nets that are not in the right part of the property is my main agenda.

see above reply…they were warned

edit: here is a quote from the article, maybe there is no specific date, but when you have been sent several notices over the span of MONTHS what do you expect?

"Several residents were sent letters last year warning them that the state’s “Clear Zone” law prohibits trees and other objects from being within seven feet of the pavement’s edge in a residential subdivision.

John and Melissa McCafferty said they’d gotten more than one warning letter, but that police cars and heavy machinery showed up without warning Friday morning to remove the hoops."

Several residents were sent letters last year warning them that the state’s “Clear Zone” law prohibits trees and other objects from being within seven feet of the pavement’s edge in a residential subdivision.

they were sent letters LAST YEAR.

It doesn’t matter. They established a timeline and communication with the state. Apparently that communication never came with a final verdict before they took action…

them taking action was the final verdict.

so let me get this straight, Its ok for the officers of the law and government to lie to civilians in order to get what they want? ive been persuing a career in law inforcement and i think this would be great to know incase i ever in fact get a job.

after reading everyone responses im expecting to see completely stock unmodified cars parked in everyones driveways and there better be front license plates on everysingle one of em.

for the record, i understand the law is the law, i just didnt agree with the way it was handled. I do understand the liabilities, i just think its one of those things that woulda made no difference whether left alone or not. Kinda seams petty, and id like to see tax payers money going towards more productive activities.

Yup lots of high horse syndrome going on in this thread. Guess none of you guys ever break the speed limit or do something to your car that isn’t “legal” :jerkit:

MAN THOSE PEOPLE ARE SUCH DOUCHEBAGS FOR BREAKING THE LAW!11!!1!!

kids are getting run down in round abouts? i find that hard to believe

what ever happened to “kids at play” signs?

The cop told the home owner they could keep the pole then they took it anyways. Thats infuriating.

The Woman in Charge (blonde, in FBI hooded sweatshirt)

  • She only identified herself to McCafferty as “the lieutenant on charge.”

  • She wore an FBI hooded sweatshirt. McCafferty called the FBI and confirmed that she doesn’t work for the FBI. She is most likely a state trooper.

  • She was armed with a gun. When she first confronted McCafferty, she flashed the gun by pushing aside her sweatshirt and putting her hand on it. “She made sure I saw it,” said McCafferty. A disabled man with a cane, McCafferty said he felt threatened by the weapon.

ha, hope the FBI gets on her ass

Kinda weird that a uniformed trooper had to call in backup, and that backup looks to have come in while getting groceries or some shit. He might need a new career.

No high horse here. If and when I get traffic tickets, I understand that I was breaking the law and accept that fact. What she did by climbing the pole and stopping them is just about the equivalent of tearing up a speeding ticket in front of a cop.

Look, they changed the law probably a year or so before the incident. They never bothered anyone about it for a while. A neighbor filed an official complaint, so it was obviously an issue for that person. The police department is not going to ignore a complaint when it’s blatantly breaking the law.

They didn’t even get fined or charged a removal fee. They just lost a SHITTY old basketball hoop. Get a new one that goes in the driveway if your kid is so devastated over it. When I was a kid, my basketball hoop was in the driveway pretty close toward the garage so that we were not playing in the street.

Now this is a story all about how
My basketball pole got taken down
And I’d like to take a moment just sit right there
I’ll tell you how they snatched-up the hoop at my lair

In Wilmington Delaware, born and raised
On the sidewalk is where I spent most of my days,
Chillin’ out, maxin’, relaxin’ with my spouse
Watchin’ my girl play b-ball outside of my house.
When a couple old people who were up to no good
Started fussin’ bout traffic in my neighborhood.
My wife climbed up our pole and pleaded ‘We live on a Court!’
But the cops said, ‘Ma’am, basketball is an illegal sport’.

I went through proper channels and needed time to phone my rep
But this femcop was like, ‘Dawg, I suggest you just step’.
I asked the blonde dyke ‘Yo, can I at least keep my pole?’
She seemed compromising, but turned out to be a troll

They chained up my hoop n’ I thought what-a fuckin’ traitor
And the goofchop cop was like ‘lolz, catch you later’
So I learned in this world ya gotta protect yo net
and to never trust a cop who’s wearin’ period sweats.

Lol!!!

I sure hate it when those basketballs hit my car. You know, when they bounce ontop of your parked car innocently minding its own business in the driveway. Or when you are driving through the street and one goes stray and bounces right across your hood.

Thats really the only complaint i could come up with. Uh… Basketball leads to drug abuse?

LMAO awesome song. someone should make a video for that.
