I just figured out that my health insurance will pay up to $250 for a gym membership at any of the gyms on this list.
If you’ve got a minute, would you take a look and let me know if you would recommend any on the list?
I mostly use free weights and prefer to run on a track. Nothing special or fancy. Something akin to Alumni at UB. If that were on the list I’d just sign up there.
Thanks guys!
EDIT: I live in the Town of Tonawanda around the corner from Mighty on Eggert, so the closer to there the better. Aside from your recommendations, that will be a major deciding factor.
Um you can get a bally’s membership on ebay for a few hundred bucks, and the annual membership cost is like 150 or something. Thats what I did and insurance pays for it. Ballys is right up off of the boulevard.
I liked Bally’s when it was close to where i lived… now it’s a pain in the balls to get to. People at Bally’s never re-racked their weights, it was annoying. I like World Gym on Sheridan drive because they are open 24hrs. But that’s probably too far of a hike for you.
Fitness Factory, Delaware Ave in Kenmore a few blocks down from Jim Doyle Ford. Lots of freeweights, good atmosphere, very few clowns and posers, good tunes, good price.
I use that same card too, haha. I go to golds on wherle, but thats out of your way, lol. They have a pretty good setup there and its not too busy, but it has its times during the day where there are a good amount of people there. Of course there are a ton of free weights, but no track for you to run on…just tredmills, elipticals, bikes, etc…
ballys free weights are kinda shitty but their track is actually pretty nice. So if you want a sub par but still semi-tolerable selection in weights with decent machines and a nice track, then go to ballys. Its not TOO far from where you live either.
Wow. The BAC seems really gay. I called to find out how much a membership was and was told that I had to meet with an HMO specialist. WTF? If I have to meet with a specialist just to find out how much it costs to use their weights, I can only imagine how much paperwork/red tape/BS would be involved with actually going there. So they’re out.
Looks like either Bally’s on East Robinson or Fitness Factory. Looks like I’d have to pay another 50 out of pocket for Fitness Factory, but it might be worth it.
Yeah they are terrible at the BAC. I went in one time to do the same thing, see how much the membership is. The guy had me in there for like 45 minutes trying to convince me to sign up. This was after I had said I cannot financially do it right now like 6 times. Dude was a fuck.
