H22 Vs. B18C5

Ok, a buddy of mine has a 95 civic hatchback and was wondering about what to do a h22 swap or a b18c5. He’s going to be using it for Auto-X. Some people told him to do B18 some told him H22. He really just can’t decide. So that brings me to wonder what you all think. Opinions please!!!

to be honest they both have their pros and cons. the h22, is only 50lbs heavier (full swap vs. full b18c5) and has i think 30 extra horses?? its problably more expensive to put it in with the custom mounts needed and working out the shift linkages…now the b18c5 is ALSO expensive, and harder to find i would think. i would do a b18c5 for ease of wiring and shift linkages. thats just me

Why is K20 or K24 not being considered? :gotme: Better than both of the other choices, IMO.

b18c5.

rev’s higher.

and plus he already has parts for a b18. a lot of parts. such as mounts, and shift linkage.

prolly cost

Can’t be any more than the b18C5…

Oh, and change my vote to F20… to the rear wheels.

a good k series swap will run 7k+.

You’re going to pay 5K for a b18, what’s another 2?

then add shift linkage. mounts. ecu wiring.

so whats another 4k?

then you’ll need clutch, exhaust, throttle body, intake, header, fuel rail, and all the other misc shit paul has lying around, for a b18 already.

He has the same for the H22 also.

no he doesn’t.

:bloated:

There’s no reason to get an h22. they suck.

especially if down the line he wants to boost it.

Uh, yea he does bro I’m stairing at them right now. YOU LITTLE BIIITCH!

nto to mention the h22 has a poor fuel delivery system.

and this is for auto-x. b series swapped cars handle a shit ton better than h22 swapped cars. h22’s weigh 70lbs more.

teh h22’s have shittier, shorter gearing…they have 4.26 FD’s, where as the b18 has a 4.400.

h22 swaps also sit lower. and with pauls car lowered how much it is…it might not even clear some driveways.

an h22 is also cable shifter…which suckkkkkkkks.

oh and b series motors have more aftermarket support.

the h series never took off, like it should have. and now with the k series, being the new fad… h series are more worse than ever.

Since beck really has no experience with either H or B series, I’ll say this:

H22 civics are awesome. There is not too much custom stuff needed. Buy some used HCP mounts from HT, and go with DSS H22 civic axles and you are all set to get it in. You use the stock H22 shift linkage as well. Once its in, all you need to do is wire it up.

H22 is cheaper than B18c5 in the long run.

H22 has the torque and power to make it a great all around car, and with the proper suspension, it’ll handle just fine.

The battle never ends with these two motors, its just preference really.

I had a stock h22 in a civic cx, and it ran 13.8@100 mph.

Redrum has a nice b18c5 setup in his cx, though mostly set up for road racing, and his ran 13.8@100.

As I said, its all preference, but as for me, I’ll take the extra torque over higher reving.

And as I type this, I see Beck made another mis-informed post, the H22 gearing is longer than the ITR. But if gearing is really that important to you, they make adapter plates for the H22 to run B series tranny’s.

50LBS more than b18 and they actually sit higher. That’s what password said with there swap kit.

he needs the higher revving for autocross.

thats all this car is going to be used for.

and when he goes to boost it. its going to be a lot cheaper/easier/more reliable.

Thats what Hondata is for. Raise that REDLINE son.

He NEEDS nothing engine wise for auto-X.

Oh yea he’s going NA. NO boost needed.
