Have you ever shut down your Facebook profile?

So after reading through this, I think I’ve come to the conclusion that Bing is not actually a real person but a god. Lol thanks for the laughs.

Again, you guys realize you can block or de-friend these poeple? I deleted all the people I don’t want to talk to and probably won’t, Anyone who annoys me usually with religious or political shit gets canned. All the rest I filter.

However you use Google+ lol

^^^ OH SNAP!

Number of negative FB experiences that amounted to annoyances or negativity (both real-life and internet-only): Less than 3

Number of REAL-LIFE-ONLY awesome shit (New base jumps, new adventures, threeways with hot and marginally-hot girls, etc) that’s occurred as a direct result of FB: 100+

The problem isn’t facebook, it’s that if you’re a loser in real life, you’re likely to be a loser on FB; thus FB drama, deleting your profile, etc.

I’ve had one since early 2006. I loved it for years when it was only open to people with a .edu email address because it meant that my information was only seen by my college friends and classmates.

As soon as they opened it up to anyone and everyone it slowly turned into Myspace with all of the nonsense and spam. I kept posting in it for awhile for nostalgia’s sake but as soon as my friend made a page for her dog, I decided I was done.

I also got sick of all the stupid status updates like, “OMG I just luv apple cider!”

Not to mention the privacy risk having a profile carries. I found out that a bunch of people viewed stuff I posted who I wish didn’t. This is even with me being absolutely anal about locking down my profile and whatnot.

So I now currently still have the profile, I just don’t really post at all.

+1 to newman… sounds like a lot of people just have shitty friends

Also, I hate baby belly pictures. I think only moms can relate to them. Baby pictures are sort of lame, but I can see why people post them. I actually appreciate that my sister posts pics of my niece, since they live across the country.

Also, I have recently decided that I will start to delete old stuff on facebook peridically. I will approve tagged photos, but will be going back and removing the tags every month or so. The reason for this is that I enjoy the dialogue that comes from posting updates and pictures and stuff, but I don’t really want any of that stuff to stick around long-term. Nobody goes back and does anything useful with old posts. They just creep around seeing what their old friends are up to, trying to justify their own lives. Weird.

Just LOLed at the poll.

If you delete or don’t have an account it just opens things up for people to impersonate you. Even if I didn’t want to use facebook or twitter I would want an account just so people know who the real me was.

Take any person on here who says they don’t have one and figure out a few basic details then go make an account for them. Anybody who knows them but didn’t read this thread would probably friend them and you could really mess with them.

Another thing I’ve been thinking:

I think a lot of the hype about how Facebook is so awesome is coming from people that are old as the hills. What I’m finding is that people 30 and under are getting sick of it and the people who love it are aging baby boomers who just discovered it.

I’ve been anti-Facebook for awhile now, I would love to see it crash and burn but I know all the new influx of old people will keep it alive.

Oh yeah, and it’s perfectly normal not to have a Facebook and the fact that people think you have to sign up for an online service to see useless status updates and be stalked by old ex-girlfriends just to be “normal” is sad and shows how screwed up our society really is.

/rant

It’s so much more than just status updates and profile information, though.

I can guarantee the people who hate on Facebook this bad don’t have jobs in a tech field.

the way some people here feel about baby pics is the way i feel about facebookers who LOVE LOVE LOVE their dogs… that annoys me so much [looking at you and Jo… Aaron :)] but it never for a second makes me want to block people. the only people I block or remove fall into two categories: people who i know are scunts and just want to keep any eye on me so that they can use info against me (i wouldnt post anything useful to them anyways), or people who consistently post rediculous drama complaining about their shitty lives, shitty family etc. but without once realizing that it is they themselves who are shit and should take some accountability for how shit they are.

i removed an old ex for the latter, she sent a follow up friend request like 2 days later… this was in the last month :frowning:

also, having ex’s i see as a side-perk of FB. it’s fun for them to see how awesome their lives would have been had they made good decisions and put-out sooner. Instead they wound up with less-awesome people

Old people LOVE facebook so much, my grandma has a profile.

Bing, I keep the people in your “latter group” around so that I can LOL at their drama…Good comic relief

This could be why I like it.

i have a google+, FB and twitter…i really only check the Twitter…my family loves inviting people to things through facebook which I really cant stand. I have never really posted too much to FB so there really is no drama it is what it is…I will periodically check it on my phone if I am bored somethings are interesting to see like how people form high school are doing…and what they are up to. The dont feel the need to share every life detail on FB but if people want to that is their deal, they just need to be prepared for consequences. My friend is an HR Manger and form what he tells me companies are checking FB pages just to see what type of people they are hiring, i dont know if they havent hired someone due to their FB or not

I realize this and made a fan page for my dog and try to put most of that stuff on there to annoy people who don’t care less.
