having a little trouble with the mani stud

one of my manifold studs broke off inside the head and i am currently trying to fix it. i drilled a hole in the centre of the stud and put an easy in the hole. i got a half turn with it and then the easy out broke off and part of it is still in the stud. ive tried a ton of different drill bits and im not getting anywhere. any ideas on which type of drill bit would work best, or any ideas how to get it out a little easier??

oh man tha easy out broke in there? its gonna b really hard…tha easy out is made of harder metal which is very hard to drill out. if u can maybe get a welder to weld a bolt onto the broken stud and turn it out?

its not broken off flush. it is in the head slightly :axe: ive been drilling for friggn hours. not getting anywhere

Get the easy out out and then go buy a better one 8)

it is flush with the broken off stud. theres no way its coming out by itself

this happened up here at work. The guys tacked on a piece of metal that was shaped like a handle. . .turned it and voila!

Good luck on getting anything to drill thru the easy out, Once they break your usually fucked

best bet is welding a smaller bolt ( like a 10mm bolt) onto the stud and turning it out that way

ya im going to bust out the welder and give it a try. its not flush with the head so it might be a bit of a bitch

well the stud is in there way to far to weld it. so sadly i may have to put it back together unless someone has an idea of how to get it out

well i couldnt get the stud out sadly. threw it all back together. the car pulls so hard, too bad it wont last long. the corner of the gasket will blow in a few days probably. wasnt a total loss though, threw on a new o2 sensor with an aftermarket turbo elbow. when i have some time i will have to take my head into a machine shop i guess. :anal what a waste of a day

shit no! if it pulls harder it was worth a day!

only because the corner of the mani gasket hasnt blown out yet. ill give it a few days. :finga:

The Japanese are always lazy fixing a problem like that so they just use permitex gasket maker to fill it in so the gasket wont blow. Im suprised it hasnt blown already. I did this once and it leaked instantly untill the car warmed up.

If you can’t get to it with a welder why don’t you use some metal epoxy on the end of a bolt.

I hate when situations like this happen to me. I end up yelling and swearing at the bolt hoping I can scare it out but it never seems to work…

i was thinking of doing that with a new stud. doubt it would hold with the heat

I mean to put some JB weld or somthing onto the end of the broken stud and turning it out.

that will break, your best bet is to get the east out, outa there there are some that i have seen that turn when you hit the end, maybe look around for one of those!

an easy out? i used one, it broke off inside the stud. i used a ton of different types and sizes of drill bits and didnt get anywhere. the easy out if way to hard to drill. the only thing i can really think of is to take my head off and take it into a machine shop.

I don’t trust easy outs. I always drill it out with a left hand drill bit. Never had a problem
