So I’m driving along the Colvin Extension in Tonawanda. I wasn’t paying attention and then I see a cop. He’s on the other side. I though oh I’m safe. Yeah, right.
62 in a 45. This is my first ticket. I tried to sweet talk him but he was like nah. No. Even good people get speeding tickets. I was like oh fine.
How unfun. What a waste of money this is going to be. He was awfully nice about it. We talked for a bit, even. He had some nasty ass pores though. My lord. Biore strips would do your face well, Officer.
Yep, that way they get to keep all the money. If you get convicted of a speeding ticket they have to split it with the state. Tonawanda includes revenue from tickets in their annual budget. It’s a big money maker. So Corey, thanks for paying for my trash pickup!
You being 19 is your only thing that will hurt you. If this is your first ticket, you will get off easy, Make sure you plea NOT GUILTY. Talk to the d.a. let him know this is you first ticket and it should get knocked down for you, parking tickets and school, should end up costing you the $100-$200 range, including school($20). How long you have been driving is the other factor. may change things slightly.
people always say to mail in the ticket for not guilty and request a supporting deposition. if the cop doesn’t show or write one then they throw the ticket out. or at least thats what i hear.
Don’t even bother mailing the ticket. Just show up to your court date. There will be a million other people there. (Like I said, it’s a money maker for Tonawanda so it’s always packed full.) You will go to the DA, he will point and say sign here and here. You get XXX (where XXX is some combination of parking tickets and school.) You will go sit in court and then go in front of the judge when he calls your name. His majesty will say a very rehearsed something about “Is this your signature? Do you accept blah blah blah? OK go to the cafeteria court window and they will take your money and sign you up for court.” Then you leave the court room, get in line again, pay some money, sign up for a school date, and go on your way.
If you want to say something, you could argue with the DA but it would be a waste of your time. They’re herding a ton of people through as quickly as possible so it’s all very mechanical. No negotiating or BS like that.
I was at Tonawanda court twice this fall. Once for me, once with my fiance. Both 16 over. Both resulted in 2 parks and school, which I think totaled like 120 dollars or something. I was there once with a couple of buddies of mine getting charged with two counts of trespassing and they were cool then too. The DA was able to tell that we were just dumbasses who meant no harm and dismissed the charges.
