my sr has been randomly stalling and i want to fix it, what things can i check? i had a leak before the turbo (exhaust manifold–> turbo) but i cemented it over and it seems to be holding. The only reoccurance that i can think of is that is stalls after i push it really hard. like going from 0-60 hard and then slowing down to go park … stalls. but sometimes the car catches it and fixes it, sometimes no. the e-brake light and the battery light go on when in stalls or is about too. (i can double check but i’m pretty sure). grounds maybe? something electrical? fuel rail was bent but i fixed as best i could, but i think if that was the problem, it would have stalled all the time.
I think its ur Oil Press light and Battery light, they will come on whenever the engine is in teh “ON” position but not running. They will light up only when the RPM = 0
i’m not sure what my idle is because i don’t have a working tach. but i will raise the idle speed… is it the plastic screw around the throttle body? (i think alittle behind it) or do i use the ecu?
yeah it probably is engine pressure  ebrake HA!
his BOV is adjustable where does it say it isn’t? its HKS SSQV right?
Anyways, yes its the plastic screw, mine stripped when i tired to do it so… good luck! if you dont know your idle it will be tricky, most likely your idle now is like 500rpm and your car is blowing off and stalling. Why does your tach not work? im sure you can find a DOHC tach somewhere…
i knwo what i had lol… i thought he had the newer style HKS unit, the SSQV. The one he has is very very rare and old… could be your problem right there man…
yeah i changed the idle speed … i didn’t realise that it take alittle beforeit set’s in … at one point driving i must have been idling around 2000 lol, anyway’s i didn’t stall at all!
but the cement around my leak is cracking erg! does anyone know a way to seal this permanently? (its from the exhause manifold to the turbo)
what makes it really difficult is that there is a a big stupid maetal bent plate that stops the bolts from loose’ning … i think whoever designed this needs to be shot! because if they do become loose how are you sapposed to tighten it???
hopefully it fixed my random stalling, but need to drive it more.
ya that braket is to keep it in place, look at the SR FSM it tels you what to torque it to. Go to brafasco and buy the highest grade automotive high temp nuts you can find, double nut it if you can, if not just put a washer/lockwasher/nut and tighten it to spec… hopefor the best!
yeah maybe when i get some time but for this weekend i got the real shit! muffler/exhaust weld. its for all exahust repairs. hope it works :x , i went driving today and still have not stalled since i raised the idle.
Wouldnt when it heats up expand everything making it tighter?
Oh and about the bolts fuck brafasco, honestly go to you local canadian tire in the hardware (YES hardware) they have all the bolts, nuts washers you need. And there chep, Brafasco makes you buy a box of 40 with a $10 limit.
they are not high temp bolts, they keep expanding and pulling out of andrews exhaust mani, only brafasco sells the best grade nuts/bolts, try NAPA too…
also, the stud is high temp, so it doesn’t expand where as the nut is not meant for that, it expands a lot, gets loose and vibration makes it fall off. If you just use bolts then crappy tire ones are good because they expand and hold better, but they are all nuts with studs on the exhaust mani.
