Help with internet issues

Do you have any other devices hooked up to the router?

This is sweet

and the one person I was hoping/expecting to chime in does…and doesn’t provide anything useful.

it’s like the blind leading the blind

yes, 2 computers connected via cat5 and one connected wirelessly. its a linksys router

If you’ve still got a problem in device manager don’t bother fucking with connection settings. You have to get the driver working properly first. Remove all of your network devices from device manager (both wireless and lan) then refresh or reboot. They may have microsofted and are conflicting.

that is wrong

both check boxes should be set to automatic

have you reset the router?

removed and rebooting

router is working fine with other computers currently attached. and has not been rebooted

edit: after rebooting, scan for new hardware, it picks up both adapters, and the wireless card shows, in the popup, an error as occured during installation and the device may not work properly, and the explamation point is still there.

Why don’t you work on one issue at a time…

Set Ethernet interface to automatically get IP/DNS servers…

Plug in Cat5 wait 30-40sec for it to get a address from the DHCP server/router

do ipconfig /all and paste into this thread

do ping google.com and paste into this thread

do tracert google.com and paste into this thread

TFC tonight?

I thought you said you were getting 50% packet loss…You wouldn’t be getting anything with no IP

Does your NIC card have a link light?

i WAS getting 50% packet loss, before, now it wont do anything.

and It does have a light that shows a green connection and a flickering yellow telling me its doing something

after doing an ipconfig/renew

I got

An error occured while renewing interface local area connection 5 : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.

Can you do an ipconfig /all on another computer connected to the same router…

Thats because it is lacking the proper device driver needed for it to work.

Does the ethernet adapter have an exclamation point as well, or does that show the adapter as installed properly?

ethernet shows as being installed properly.

So this thread is confusing me trying to read everything.

Where are you at right now?

Plug cat5 direct from PC to router and you are still getting 0.0.0.0 IP?

Do you have a second ehternet card available?
