Ok - had a late lunch with the wife at TGI Friday’s in Victor.
On the way home, a trooper pulls me over just after I get onto I-490. Apparently, a "car aficionado" had complained to him that my car was registered as a Pontiac, but didn't look like one.
So said trooper catches up to us on I-490 (and I wasn't sure what was going on - I was 5mph UNDER the speed limit) and pulls us over.
The next 10 minutes were then spent explaining why my car doesn't look like a Pontiac... and then he let us go.
Apparently, having a car's appearance not match the registration is concerning to some people...
He was driving behind you, didn’t recognize your car model, ran the plate and thought he was about to bust some shady shit. Probably made up the story about a “car aficionado” to save face in case he was wrong. (Things cops HATE… being wrong)
Who knows… if he did, he must have been stalking my car, as he knew I came from TGI Fridays - and the exit from the restaurant is right next to the on-ramp for the highway. So he wasn’t following me for long.

Well, he was good about it - and FWIW, he didn’t actually ticket me, even though I still had the Aussie front plate on (and he noticed that, too) - which would have been at least a “legit” ticket.
Exactly - though he did say the person who complained to him thought my car was “a French car of some kind”. I guess he was trolling for some gray-market stuff…
If it really was someone who called it in to police wouldn’t you just love to find that guy and give him a light curb stomp? I mean really, what business is it of yours that you need to be looking at registration stickers of parked cars you don’t recognize to see if they match up to the badges?
I’m pretty sure they do have laws against removing/changing badging, because when there’s something like a persuit, they say “were looking for a _____ color _____ make ____ model” and if they don’t see badges they might now know what kind of car it is.
Not sure how that would apply - especially since there’s no laws against re-painting cars. And some cars have that color-shift added, so it’s red from one angle, blue from another. And THAT would be more confusing, IMHO, than calling out a “gray/silver two-door”.
