agreed, clay bar seems to be the hardest and most expensive way to remove this stuff. Not only that I really dont think clay was ment to be used for such aggressive messes.
I just love when people argue about which brand of clay is better… it pretty much all comes from Auto Wax since they hold the patent on it and resell to everybody.
but back to the thread, I would try bug and tar remover first since it’s a lot quicker and easier.
Actually man, I’ve used some pretty horrible clay bar products. Shouldnt be a difference, but there is.
I’ve only used 2. But they were definitley not the same.
The maguires starts falling apart and sticking to my hands after a little while. The clay magic is a little harder, more abrasive than mags, but you rub less, and it lasts way longer.
I used the included lube for each kit, QD comes with the mags. The mags is also more expensive, but you do get a microfiber towel iirc.
what about the clay on the glass has anyone done it… i have a diff issue but want to know if it make glass nice a pretty lookkin
You can clay glass, I clay the glass last or with old clay.
I don’t know about the inside though. Also if you do the windshield the blades could chatter for a little while.
i have scratches in the windshield from crappy wipers…driving in the morning with the sun comming threw really got to me this morning…and i can deal with the chatter…
if anything ill clay the whole car then use it on the glass after
after this fry you can has your topic back
clay isn’t going to do anything for the scratches tho…
Haha it’s all yours. I’m going to try the bug and tar remover first. Clay bar if that doesn’t work.
re the clay - there are different levels of cutting so it’s not all going to give the same results, but it’s all coming from the same place.
I always recommend making sure the clay is in good shape and ready to use. I did about 3 hours of claying this weekend on the evo and my clay was basically dry and frozen from being in the garage all winter. So I threw it in a cup of water and stuck it in the mircowave for 30 seconds… came out good as new after a little needing.
also, yes I clay glass… it works wonders.
good advice…be gentle with the alcohol too
O, hai. Did anyone suggest claybarring it?
That was some sort of super spooge tree or something. Clay bar didn’t touch it. Tar, bug, and sap remover barely worked. Alcohol applied liberally with a lot of ass behind it finally got it. So then I claybarred the whole thing, washed it, and waxed it. The rest of the car is still dirty and the paint has typically flaws from 4 years of DD style abuse and neglect, but for the most part the paint hasn’t looked this good in 4 years.
Turtle wax tar, bug, and sap remover.
Alcohol.
Mother’s clay bar kit.
Armour All wash.
Insulator’s wax.
Pretty much everything applied with microfiber rags.
like i said the PPG DX 330 disolves the tar like mud.
I get quarter sized drops of sap on my vehicles all the time, the DX wipes it away with very little effort.
bj 4 u tonight!
Looks good, Jimmy Fry.
