How long do you let your car warm up in the morning?

while the thread is about the best possible scenario, the modern fuel injected car is pretty robust and will take a lot of abuse… I wouldn’t do anything special, really… check the owners manual for oil recommendations in cold climates… I don’t do anything to prep for winter driving.

i just turn it on and put it too the floor, i like the way it rooaar’s

Winter beaters, and work trucks. It there some new snow and its really cold I’m not dressed for. I’ll come back in after cleaning it up and wait 2-10mins. Other then that, I have shit to do, and go.
Fun cars, let to oil get up to temp before having fun. or drive a few miles when its under 50 and the trans in notchy. t56 :frowning:

^ nice. I was going to post the thread from e46fanatics, but I would figure no one would believe it from a non ‘official’ source.

this and I drive like a grandma until it heats up sadly the ticking never stops lol

but why?

fixed

shut up dude

Hit the clutch hit the gear hit the gas and I’m gone.

Wont u just sit there revving? i think u have to let off the clutch

I Was asking why does bmw say to not let your car warm up to operating temperature?

I Only pretty much do it to make the inside warm, since i dont wear a coat… and for the turbo… or whatever lol

30sec.

My guess would be that the water pump, like every other accessory, doesn’t spin fast enough when the engine is at idle. I may be wrong but I would rather listen to the guy that designed the engine than listen to fools on a car forum. I also wasn’t mocking you, I was mocking everyone that didn’t ask the question you did. In fact, I was on your side.

sometimes i frown when there is snow on my car.

does your car ever frown when there is snow on it?

above 20 degrees, adjust the radio, become comfortable, and scoot out keeping the revs under 3k.

below 20 degrees, i wait about 30 seconds, and then go.

Being at work everyday at 6 am makes for minimal warm up time but with the pistons I am running and the turbo I always let her idle down before hitting the road. It usually takes around a minute or 2 to idle down and I always keep her out of boost until the engine is at normal operating temp… then it’s WOT down the highway because I’m ALWAYS LATE! 6 am work ftl

Depends if I’m in a rush or not and how cold it is.Usually like 5 minutes.I bet I’m the only one here driving a winterbeast with a carb,I gotta get in it and give it 2 shots of gas.:naughty:

I can either let it rev at like 4K for a few minutes and it’ll be warm or I can kick it down to normal idle and wait like 10 mins.

Water = cooling = who the fuck cares if the thing’s spinning at all when the engine’s ice cold.

However, the oil is going to be thick as thieves so maybe you don’t want the engine sitting there idling with next to no oil pressure? Maybe?

The water can’t transfer heat if it’s not moving. If you wait for the engine to “warm up,” how long has that hot spot been sitting with no cooling?

Fuck letting it warm up, I have a domestic with pushrods.

Start it, hit reverse and fly
