I know that there will be tons of different situations that will affect the lifetime of your suspension setup, but on a typically street driven car, how long do multilink suspension arms run before they start to wear out? This is all assuming that everything was properl installed, rod ends were greased if need be, and the car is not winter driven.
I was looking into getting a full Megan multilink, but then shyed away because of the price (seemed too cheap) but now after reading a review thread on the Megan multilink setup on NICO, I liked what I heard and figure I might give it a shot. Before I do though, I would also like to know the durability differences between teflon lined rod ends, and greased ends. I am assumung that for the price of the Megan ones, you need to grease them (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
If there is a huge benifit of going with the teflon ends, and they last longer, then I will go with a BINGS setup now that he carries the Tension Rods aswell.
So I guess to sum it up, How long can I expect to get out of greased ends compared to Teflon ends, and what are the benifits betweem greased and teflon, other than maintainance.
i had a peak at the Megan stuff over at Varun’s place, it’s not bad, in fact i was surprised really… so for the price i dont think you are wasting your money on Megan… i bet people were expecting me to say the opposite.
i will say that there are people on here that have used my RUCA’s for more than 2 years and have driven them through more than one Canadian winter and are still going strong.
it really is a tough call though, so many difference variables affect the life of these products.
Megan uses larger hardware than i do, they have what appears to be a 3/4" rod end that is protected by a rubber boot.
My gear has higher quality rod ends, ones that dont need boots, but since i dont have any specs on the megan rod ends i cannot quantify it with numbers. i do give the spec of my rod ends on the my site though.
Each product has it’s own key selling features. The megan stuff is better than the ebay junk, that is for sure. It’s cheaper than mine or the brand name gear for initial purchase anyways.
It’s hard to give a totally unbiased opinion, but if you want my advice i think you should all buy like 7 sets of my multi-link… like now… yes right now
*edit…
to address longevity… my gear has been on the market for about 3+ years right now with no failures not due to accident if that gives you any indication. we’ve gone through a few revisions on each piece so it is now better than it was way back then… and even those previous versions are holding up well.
ultimately, if you buy a decent product, Megan included, it is likely that only an accident or corrosion will lead to a failure.
