How many here dont have health coverage ?

yea if u have it, keep it…

right now personally i dont have it, but thats due to me changing jobs and i need to wait 3 months at new job to get so-n-so health coverage… but i do hate paying for this bullshit, i go to the doctors once or nonce a year, but with snowboarding in the winter and driving/cruising in the summer, its still worth it!!!

I know a girl that made about $10 an hour, went in the hospital for pains in her stomach and left 5 days later with a $72,000 bill. I can’t remember for the life of me what she had, but she’ll never be able to pay the bill.

My now wife had severe abdominal pains one night. I took her to the ER and it turned out to be appendicitis. She needed emergency surgery. If she didn’t have health insurance the medical bills would have cost her over $60,000. Because she had insurance it cost her $500. Appendicitis can happen to anyone who still has an appendix for no apparent reason. For that reason alone it is worth it to have health insurance.

I’m covered by my parents for now, I wouldn’t know what to do without it. I will get it as soon as I lose it. The medication I’m taking now would be 12 dollars a pill without it. 720$ a month plus the once a month doctor visit. NEVER WILL I PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THAT. I pay 10 dollars for the whole script and 5 dollars a visit. I don’t see how anyone could justify not having insurance.

It’s not just a in case shit happens thing, It’s a better lifestyle thing.

Aqua has worked fine for me. I go to the dentist 2 times a year and my heart specialist twice a year. One day ill find a primary again. But I believe my plan is only around $200 a month for myself. Work pays for a majority of my insurance but that still isnt bad and it takes care of the bills up to a $500 limit. After that im responsible for 20% percent of the bill and the health insruance will cover the other 80%.

my cousin as healthy as a 22 year old as they come, just came down with TTP and spent 30 days in the hospital. Everyday receiving Ruboxtin and plasma feresis. I’m pretty sure his Hospital bill will be $500k +

Thank god for health insurance its going to cost him $500.

Work pays for 100% of my BCBS Aqua plan.

I have coverage for emergencies. You dont need baller coverage, just something incase of a catastrophic injury or illness. But instead this will turn into why Obama should make coverage “free”. Think health coverage is expensive, just wait until you pay for yours, and the guy next to you, forceably.

ditto, same plan too.

But, I voted “I do now, but won’t soon” option since I will be leaving my job later this year in order to move back home/start grad school at the start of next year. MBA > construction job with ins.

I have only “used” my insurance once in four years, but it has saved me over 5k the one time I used it.

I never said I was paying cash for a house. I said I was closing on a house.

I took the avatar down, because like I said before, I do not own a Saturn anymore. I just don’t come on here often and havent changed it yet. I dont understand why you even care what I drive and or do. The topic is about health insurance, wtf does what I drive have anything to do with that? We own our own business, part of that is making performance parts for Saturn’s. I really dont care what you think, because I am pretty damn proud, that I can take a cheap crappy car and make it run 12’s in the 1/4. Not much difference then owning a Honda, besides the huge aftermarket. Not many people can do the same, without a shop doing it for them. So go on and continue to be a douche… nothing I havent heard before. At least come up with something more original than “your gay you own a Saturn”…

I never said that I dont want health insurance either, its just expensive if you dont have your work paying for half or a part of it. All I was doing is asking people what they do and what they have if they are in the same situation as myself. I know its bad not having it, hence why I am asking this question. Thank you to people who actually have answered my questions, I will look into them.

Wow, this thread turned into a shit storm for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Extremely uncalled for. The guy was asking for advice, in an area he obviously needs help in. If he knew where to go or where to look perhaps he wouldn’t ask on here. He has a legitimate concern that last I checked was a major everyday household problem in the United States. To the members that made comments for no reason; What the fuck is your guys deal?

Fucking lemmings.

On topic, depending on your income you might qualify for healthy NY which is around 170 a month. It’s not the best coverage but if you don’t need any serious meds you should be ok. If you own a business you can check with local chambers of commerce sometimes they offer group rates for small business owners that band together and go in on policies as a group through the chamber of commerce making for a better rate than going it alone.

Good luck, being sick in the hospital sucks. I was there for 3 days a couple years ago and it cost me 12k.

Health Insurance is overrated. I haven’t had it for the past 3 years.

I am still under my parents but I can add it to my vision/dental plan for only like $11/week through my employer, so I am not worried.

If you are self employed, look to join a local chamber of commerce. You can get pretty cheap health insurance through them because of the leverage of a large group. My health insurance is 252 a month through the Brighton Chamber of Commerce (in Rochester).

I can’t believe how retarded this thread is.

It would be nice to have the option through the company I work for, been there 2-3 years now and nothing. I’m in the process of getting some, healthy NY seems like a good option for “emergency” coverage.

Kinda sucks considering I know they have a healthcare plan but they haven’t offered it to me or the other employee yet. Heck wont even pay for the start up fee on direct deposit for us.

Combine that with the bullshit banked overtime that only counts as strait time…

If the economy wasn’t shit I may have walked out already.

11 an hour isn’t to bad for a first real job so that’s why I’m sticking around for now. No real advancement opportunity sucks, if I want to make money I have to go out on my own and build stuff…or find another field.

sorry about the stray from topic, but it makes me mad.

My father was paying $12,000 a year for our family.

you know that is cheep for family insurance right
