I’m still in. I like working on cars but haven’t had a garage of my own in 5 years so that makes things tough. As it is right now, I’ve been putting off an oil change on my DD because I refuse to lay in the shit to do it. Also my car likes to break things and I refuse to go into debt for it. If I don’t have the money to fix it, it sits, sometimes for years until I’m ready.
I’ve never really hung out at meets from this site. Went to a couple Mighty meets with the DSM crew before everybody left the scene. A couple Bubble Tea ones too.
Many of my “car” friends have moved on in their lives and left the cars behind. (see eclipsed, rubicant,)
I don’t fault them at all, it’s an expensive hobby when you don’t own a house, even more-so when you do.
There’s still the die hards, Skrapper, TurboTSi, and Burch that I try to get together with for beers or whatever, but that’s been about it for me lately.
Shoulda got a little more indepth with the poll than just IN or OUT. I think a “check all that apply” out of buying fast cars, buying go-fast parts, wrenching yourself, street racing, the track, going to meets, or just being interested in what’s out there would paint a better picture.
As much as I wanted to start a build and go fast at the track I don’t really care for that so much now. It’s mostly a time and lost of motivation. I’m still into cars, but I’m done hanging out in parking lots and that stuff.
For now I’ll just keep up with my car and have fun driving it.
I work on my own cars, I find it therapeutic (despite the swearing it causes). I enjoy detailing.
I enjoy having nice cars. I enjoy having performance cars.
I enjoy riding bikes at the track, and will probably switch back to doing it with cars (casually).
I have so many other hobbies and interests though that it takes up a very small percentage of my time/income/etc.
I wouldn’t say I’m “IN” to cars, like it implies in this thread, but I would still list them as one of my hobbies… my interests are just to diverse for my own good these days.
I’m in, although I never have gone to any NYSpeed events due to timing, location, work, and a number of other things. Oh and the fact that I’ve never really had a car worth modding doesn’t help either I’ve owned a couple bikes and have had a blast with some group rides and other meets, so I would imagine I’d enjoy the same whenever the day comes that I can drive something that’s not a POS lol. I always told myself I would buy an FD after I graduated college. Now I’m two years out, getting married soon, then hopefully buying a house. So who knows when the day will come that I can afford something decent. That’s part of the reason I got into bikes, simply because it was a cheaper way to go fast.
I enjoy cars, I enjoy working on them and building them as well as driving them. That being said…
My life has been chaos for the past few years, and it’s been more important to me to get my life straightened out from a career, family, and $$ situation than to spend $$ I really didn’t have to spend on toys. As such my Firebird hasn’t left the garage since I pulled the engine a few years ago. It sucks, and I’d love to have it, but other priorities have taken over. With all the changes going on this year, and moving out of state shortly (< 6 weeks if all goes right), plus a TON of other stuff I’m not going to bring up on this board the car and toys have to wait a few more years. But once I get through the next 2-3 years, then I’ll be in a much much better place to be able to “play” with cars again.
Into cars for sure, tho in the last few years, jeeps and offroading have become a huge intrest of mine. I love building the cars more than owning them.
Anyone who knows me, knows I go thru cars on a regular basis, some cars I didn’t even keep for a week, all the fun is in building them.
As soon as a project is done, its normally forsale so I can start another one. Same reason I completely redesigned and welded in a stronger/ better floor on my jeep instead of just buying a cleaner one.
All in the name of fun.
Tho lately I’ve been concentrating on saving money to try and buy a nice commercial lot with a big building, or atleast a big residential lot with a small house on it, that I can put a large barn type garage on with a couple lifts. Saving for said property has really slowed down my ability to have all the extra cash to dump into more than one project. It takes alot to not go to bank and pull out alot of money just to dump it into a car.
Am I still into cars? hell yeah, now and forever since the first time I turned a screw driver when I was just a little kid, I was raised to be into cars. My girl is into muscle cars, I dont think I’ll ever grow out of them.
If I ever get a nice garage space to work out of again, I’ll still build a ls1 powered sn95 stang. But for now I’d just rather have a nice factory performance machine and keep my hobby interests to jet skis/4 wheelers/snowmobiles to have fun with.
i havent spent much money on my cars in the last 2 years, focusing more on home and wardrobe
that said, i love awesome cars and always will.
newman, i dont think that loving and having interesting cars is exclusive of doing any of the awesomeness you’re getting into. In fact, i think if you were NOT into cars you wouldnt be as awesome :)… doing the slacklining, skydiving, rappelling stuff is wicked but fewer people have and could pull off the E30…
I’m kinda meh on the whole modified street car stuff, my passion for cars started out with race cars and has moved back in that direction. For now it’s been as a spectator again, I think the wife and I made it to 10 different tracks last year, hopefully hit up some new ones this year as well as going to some of our favorites (Brewerton and Fulton!!)
I’m into MY cars, I really don’t keep up with the auto industry or any racing really. I like working on and driving my cars, but don’t really care too much about other people’s cars. I’m selfish.
There are certainly many respectable versions of being into cars.
I am very into my car and other cars that are built to that extent. I appreciate people that have genuine interest in the hobby. I have only been to 1-2 car shows in my life and hardly go to meets but I still love cars none the less. Not very interested in racing either to be honest.
Your car is an example of a car that has made me lose interest in my car. I feel like I’ve reached a point where to get that love back would require a full blown build…but it’s one I’m hesitant to do thanks to a platform (fox Mustang) I’m really not into anymore. If it weren’t for the sentimental value I have with my car, it would be long gone. It’s a dumb and hypocritical situation…I know.
