Got my first one yesterday at a motorcycle safety checkpoint (aka ticket you for whatever they can to make money) in Elicottville…trooper said it’s not a moving violation, so no points. Debating just mailing it in pleading guilty, or pleading not guilty and bringing a legal helmet with me to court.
Anybody ever get one…or know someone that has? Just curious how much money it is and if it’s worth my time trying to get it reduced.
i would think like 20$ plus a 5 million dollar surcharge
200 at least after you walk out the door. after all its the most important thing you have while riding, at least thats what the court says

Exactly my thoughts too. I have no sympathy for people who wear those non-DOT skull cap helmets.
I have to admit that sucks, but bad move on the non DOT helmet. Why bother?

I’m not arguing that i broke the law…sure my helmet is illegal, completely so. I’m not saying i didn’t deserve the ticket, and i’m not asking for sympathy…so you can all get your panties untwisted and calm down.
We’ve all sped, been pulled over, and pleaded it down…not saying i didn’t break the law, just trying to reduce my costs via a plea of not guilty just like one does whilst getting a speeding ticket reduced to parking ticket(s).
I got a ticket a few weeks ago for “Not wearing a Helmet” while driving the t-rex. I still do not drive it with one. I’ll let you know how that goes in court.

LAFENGAS…that’s sucks, the legality of it makes sense but in reality it is a stupid law in your case.
wtf that sucks…i thought it was registered as a kit car or something like that.
I’d feel much safer with a cage around my whole body than just a plastic and foam helmet around my head.

I would just bring in your DOT approvde helmet and be like WTF the DOT sticker was under this piece of padding or something…
and ive NEVER seen a non DOT motorcycle helmet… non Snell yes, but isnt DOT just basically it has to keep your brain goo instead your helmet?

Was in Daytona for bike week this past year…and was only drunk enough one night to ride without a helmet…

In reality, i only had the balls enough one night to try it, and it was quite the exhilirating experience to say the least…an amazing sensation feeling the wind in your hair like that…but not something i’d do regularly i think. A shitty thin helmet will still provide worlds more protection than none at all…

And i can’t believe how much shit the crotch rocket guys will talk about not wearing proper protection, while half of them are ripping wheelies on the thruway on a semi-regular basis. The most important part of riding safety is riding style…not what you wear.
