how much to get a flywheel turned & lightened?

what do shops usually charge for this kind of work? Just trying to figure out whether its worth it to drop the coin on a new one or have mine reworked

for reference its a B-series Honda stock ~17lb, looking to get it lightened to maybe 12-14lbs with the resurface

That is to much material.

too much to remove? I always heard 3-4lbs is ok

Fleet pride did mine for $50. That wsas 2 years ago though.

If you take 3-4 lbs out of the mating surface it will be WAY out of spec for thickness and it will not be engaged by the clutch properly if at all.

Machining holes in a flywheel that wasn’t intended to have them could get the weight down, but that’s not something I’d risk. Do a search for the aftermath of some flywheel failures and you’ll see why.

yea just look into lighten flywheels. Not that the performance is that much savings

exactly why I don’t want to drop loot on one. I already have a 12lb for my one car, wanted something similar for the other but definitely not the far more common 7-8lbers which I’ve also had and they suck in city driving. I guess I’ll just keep the stock weight for now

thanx guys
