I’ve got a pretty kick ass pad for just turning 24…
You can bike or hike year round, there are plenty of good areas to do both.
A 2 hour drive to the top of the mountain if you start to miss the snow, 2 hours back down the mountain if you are tired of the snow.
Drive to California or Nevada, also there are cheap flights to Hawaii.
Particularly, I like the city of Tempe… Half of it is a fun college town with plenty to do, and plenty of eye candy. The other half reminds me of the Town of Tonawanda where I grew up. Rows and rows of established ranch houses.
You can bike or hike in 120 degrees? I’d melt. When I was at the river in Yuma I tried to avoid being out of the water during the day at all costs, and that was only memorial day.
I rented out my apartment, sold my furniture and bounced. I literally spent 16 hours in Austin and knew I was moving here as soon as I sold everything. FedEX’d the clothes I wanted to keep and bought new shit down here.
I miss a couple people. It’s a little more boring down here on sunday/monday but that should fix itself as I meet more people in different circles, etc…
It was bitterly cold today (40’s). yeah. I said it.
Seriously though as long as you’re not married. Pick up and fucking move. Everything works out in the end anyway. Traveling around the country for a month really changed my perspective on what’s really important. You know what the most important thing in life is? Having as much fun as long as possible. If you wake up and aren’t in the mood to do what you “have” to do that day then you should change what you’re doing. Fuck plans, stay loose.
Even if you are married and have a house and shit. I have a house and look for positions all over the country. Houses can be sold and the wife will come with you.
I am willing to make a move while I am young to advance in my career, it does not have to be for a major pay increase, but a much bigger job.
now that i think back on it a bit i did make a move like this already…
went from a super cushy bullshit job in a shitty run family company where i could get away with anything… and went for a 45 minute commute job for 50% more pay and alot of risk…
when i knew it was right. bought a house 5 minutes away, knocked up the wife…
i guess we’re supposed to be looking for the right time and place to settle, so if this isnt it… go
i say if your gut doesn’t tell you to do it, don’t. if you have doubts (not due to risk, but due to happiness), don’t do it. 11,000 pre-tax doesn’t seem like a deal breaker at all imo. then again, i don’t know what your comfortable realm of income is. but that is your business, not mine
Texas is flat as shit, the land does kind of suck. There are a lot of fat people, but they are usually older folks. Most young people I know are slim. I don’t mind the mentality, except the entire drinking while driving thing. I don’t know why people love to do that.
I found it funny on the news they were encouraging people not to shoot their guns in celebration of new years. LoL
Yah the heat can be hard unless you can learn to live with it. The first summer I was here I went to go for a bike ride and was beat after about 2 miles. No joke I was exhausted. I worked myself up and went longer and longer each time. After about a month I didn’t have a problem going 20+ miles under the noon sun. Your body adjusts to it.
You think the south / south west has it bad? Try going to the keys when it is 110 out with 300% humidity.
Tempe and Scottsdale AZ are really nice. I’ve spent some time there ~5 years ago.
