How-To: Butterfly Valve Screw's Loctite

This mod is to help save your engine from a premature death if you have an '02-'04 SE-R or Spec V I highly recommend you do this mod, just for peace of mind.

  1. If you have your engine cover on take out the three screws holding it down and take it off.

  2. Remove the big bolt on each side of the Strut tower brace, if you don’t have a Strut Tower Brace ignore this.

  3. Remove the two screws holding down your wiring harness.

  4. Remove the two screw’s holding this hose onto your intake manifold.

  5. Remove two screws on the passanger side of the intake manifold holding down two brackets, and the nut on this side as well.

  6. Go around to the drivers side of the intake manifold and remove the top of you intake that is attached to your throttle body.

  7. Now remove the 4 bolts holding your throttle body onto your intake manifolf and disconnect the plug on it as well.

  1. Remove the two bolts that are located below the throttle body on the intake manifold.

  1. Next remove the two bolts on the bronze harness right near the throttle body.

  2. Remove the nut on the driver’s side of the intake manifold that is below the bronze harness’s that you just took the bolts out of.

  3. Disconnect the blue plug.

  4. Take a pair of pliers and slide the clamp up holding the hose onto the top middle of the intake manifold and slide this hose off. After doing this remove the bolt directly behind, as seen in this picture.

  5. The last four bolts holding down the intake manifold are along the back of the manifold on either side of the last bolt you just removed.

After you have completed this you wil be able to lift the top of the intake manifold off and gain access to the two screws in each of the butterfly plates. Remove them one at a time and put one drop of RED loctite on each screw and screw back in.

Ahh, very nice! It’s really easy, so if you haven’t done it, you really should!

Is this a problem on all the QR’s or only in the Sentra?

ALL QR’s

Why not just remove them completly??

nice write up, those pics turned out pretty well.
and i dont think the ‘butterfly valve’ or whatever you call it would stay on if there was no screws there. but thats just a guess as to why not take them off totally

…OK…NO Screws=Part falls off. <<<<<Ill have to remember this…LOL

I meant take the butterly valves out completely.

You loose lower end power with them out, they get removed when you go turbo (and S/C’d I think), but yeah loosing like 10-15 hp N/A doesn’t seem like it’s worth it. If you keep them in while FI you just spin even more than you do with them out.
