How-to: Make "Lazy eyes"/"Sleepy eyes"

Does anyone know how i would go about getting “lazy eyes”/“sleepy eyes” on my '89 240sx hatchback. I dont know if its aftermarket or a simple modification. if it is a manual modification, how do i go about doing it. thanx, ryan

Okay, by sleepy eyes, do u mean:

    or

If you want the 1st one, you will need to buy aftermarket lights, 4 of them, and then you will have to do a lot of custom work in order for them to look good.

If you want the 2nd one, i’m sure you already know how to do it, but just lower them manually (the spinner on top of the light motor)

i dotn know about that, when i trued to lower them using the adjusters on the top of the motor it would just keep on reseting when it was moved so far, that is why i just wired in a switch on the green line behind the light popup button

my relay died  they are always sleepy, and I can turn them on too (lights up my whole intercooler from behind  )

Oooooooooo…spooky…

i would like to see that

Pavel is a ricer, told ya.

Do what Benson said and wire a switch interupting the green wire at the
back of the up/down button for the headlights. You will only be able to have
sleepy eyes while the lights are off, but driving without headlights is stupid
anyways.

^^^yep that works the best…

<----i have no interior lights

Just pull the headlight retract relay and they will stay sleepy all the time.

Now the cool thing about this way of doing sleepy eyes is that if and when you need them up you just hit the headlight switch on the dash.

I am wondering what type of mods you would have to do to get the first pic. (with the 4 round lights). Like where would u get the lights, and then what type of modifications would you have to do?

Does anyone know how to actually do it?

east bear kit.
www.jspec.com has them. I beleive they were 650 US for the complete kit.

Is there a cheaper, perhaps time consuming “custom home” mod that one could do with alot of time on their hands? =)

If you’re just looking for “sleepy eyes” it’s simple. Drop your steering column, take out the gauge cluster and surround and look behind the pop-up control switch (not the actual headlight switch, but the button on the left that just puts the pop-ups up and down). Find the green wire on the back of that switch, cut it and splice in a 2-way switch. Mount that somewhere and you’re good to go.

The process:

  • Push the button to put the pup-ups up.
  • Push the button again so they start going down.
  • While they’re going down, trip your new switch and they will stop part way.
  • Done.

yes you can make that headlight kit ur self for about 250usd for the basics , they’re hella lenses they use h7 bulbls i don’t know the actual name i just looked for hella h7 and found them i was going to do this my self

dunno… get a controller from next level motoring?

i found a way to get mine to sleepy eyes but once theyre like that they have to stay wether ur lights are on or off… just set the lights to wut u want by simply turning the knob on each light. then simply unplug the motor to each light…you can still turn the lights on and off via the switch in the car but the lights stay in the position . hope that was helpful

why doesnt someone try using one of those bass contollers that come with most rockford fosgate amps.(sorta like a volume control for ur lights)

just wire in the switch to the green wire in the button on the left of your dash.

its like a 1.50 to do.

soo simple.

GT

the best way to do this in my opinion is to disconnect the plugs completly and wire in ur own switch that runs completly seperate from anything on the vehicle… that way u can adjust the lights with a simple switch… or u can do it the easy way and do wut i did… just keep them sleepy all the time … disconnect the plugs from the lights but then adjust the lights with the knob to where u want them… when ur set u just leave the lights as they are and when u turn them on theey will just light up… but if ur gonna do this… adjust the whole light itself so that its pointing forward not down to the ground do this by loosening the lower philips screw on the light itself… and there u go u have a free way of creating “sleepy eyes”
