How would I build a KA-T...

Would like to know if there is an inexpensive route to building a 250-350 whp reliable KA for little money…

What would be mandatory to replace and upgraded in a KA? rings ect.

Would like to build a reliable KA-T with decent power that I can hit the track with.

Was considering the GodSpeed turbo kit…want to upgrade on that, like BOV, waste-gate, if necessary

…seems it may be a better route then an SR swap… Dont want to hear KA vs SR crap. Ill have a fresh built KA might spend more yes and shouldn’t have wiring nightmares.

SR’s arn’t wiring nightmares if done by the right people. But either way, reliable and low cost don’t go together when your talking engines.

A good set of coated slugs, h-beam rods, a little softer bearings. and a PROPER tune.

good cooling

250whp - t25, 370cc and a TUNE!! most important thing, and don’t try it with an SAFC you will still have faulty timing.

FAST, CHEAP, RELIABLE. Pick Two.

SR’s are wiring nightmares??.. before my SR swap all i had ever done was oil changes, and I ended up doing the swap myself. Never had wiring issues with mine, or any issues for that matter with the SR at all. Maybe if your SR comes with a mangled harness you’ll have issues, but if you have an uncut harness you just follow this guide http://www.frsport.com/SR20DET-Swap-Engine-Harness-Wiring-Diagram-Guide-SR-SR20_t_26.html and smile

Anyways, I have no experience with KA’s except pulling it out let alone boosting KA’s, I figure you’ll probably find everything you need here: http://www.ka-t.org/forums/

I’m running a t-25, SAFCneo, Enthalpy tune, with stock internals on a motor with 300+ k on it… I have a few minor issues but it gets me from point a to b with little problems.
I think I’m making like 200 whp, haven’t dyno’d it though.

If you want reliability, strengthen you internals, throw a t28 on it and crank the boost. Use quality parts, don’t buy chinese bull shit.

personally i would piece it together myself instead of buying a kit. but first, run a compression test to make sure your engine is good. you won’t even need to worry about internals if you stick under 300 with a healthy engine. find a decent t25, some injectors, slap together a fmic, bov, some sort of fuel management and get it tuned! tuning is most important part for reliability.

hey bchlr, is it finally running? i wanna see it!

I was hoping to use mostly stock internals. I’ve heard KA rods are tough. 300whp or a bit less is what im looking for. The engine I’m looking at has very high km and they make less power then my sentra…not cool

I had SR nightmares lol…

Basically I wanna rebuild the engine and reinforce things here and there. Headgasket, studs, ect.

everything you’ll need to know about building a ka-t. like lots of people have already said though, building a motor the cheap way won’t benefit you in the long run.

Moron.

To the OP, KA internals are good for 300whp (it’s been reliably done on at 200,XXXKM motor), provided that you don’t cheap out on tuning. Go with piggyback or tuned ECU - there are many resources that can help you out in tuning - I can’t emphasize enough on tuning. You’d be wise to change the fuel pump and head gasket.

as much as i have read about this ( countless hours)

best affordable route for tuning is a jim wolfe ecu and SAFC for fine adjustments

stock ka is reliably good for 7-8lbs of boost, some handle 10-12 some dont

basically if you want to stick to 250hp or less, it will be reliable, after that its hit and miss

alot of people set up the oil lines wrong and send too much oil to the turbo, make sure there is a fitting in the line to restrict flow

is this a single cam or twin cam? many oem injectors from other cars drop into single cam and twin cams,

I have never built one myself but have considered it. and been collecting parts for a while with intentions of a turbo single cam in the future.

check out gladman performance,

and just google random shit like “ka24de compatible injectors” “ka24 max boost” and see what you find

heres my results. u can reliably make 330whp on a non built ka. but thats only if u have a good tune. max psi on a dohc that would be still safe would be 12, anything past that would be pushing it. im running a 255 walbro fuel pump and 550cc injectors. the sr ones, if u want to be safe on them then they max out at 250whp. the fuel system is one of the main things that needs upgrading in order to run that much power. as for the tune im running nistune and got it tuned by redik at rs tuning. great guy and very helpful, would recommend u talk to him. he told me that this setup is very safe and super reliable and so far no problems.

what kind of fuel mileage to you get? and on what octane?

i put in 94 octane but got it tuned to 91 i think. its only like 4 cents more. and gives me about 8km per liter. it is gonna be a bit more because it sill runs rich. have to go back and get it fixed, top o2 never worked lol. have some wiring issues to deal with first FML.

LOL Ya…

lol ka-t s can make some serious torque and power but they suck on gas mileage…

My stock ka is frickin great i get 30mpg easily… but now that i got a mazda 3 im spoiled on good mileage, with good driving i can get 600km and slightly over to a tank if i drive like a retard i still get 550-580
