I bought a Chevy

Thats what i said to choad and he didnt want to listen. What one is it? Ive been thinking of a mail order black bear tune but idk yet.

Superchips cortex and i have HPtuners if you want to pay for credits… I think i’m gonna read up on tuning theses trucks with HP tuners and i don’t think it would be to hard. I’ll use my truck for the test pig and see if i gain any MPG.

Mindless get me all the info on your truck engine, trans, year, etc and i’ll try to find a mild canned tune on HPt forums. I just downloaded one for mine and it will be a good starting point to work off. My tuner guy for my car knows his shit and i’m gonna get him to help me out and dave can vouch for him.

Its an 08 with a 5.3 auto trans(dunno what one ill look into it) But i know getting rid of most of the torque management is a big change along with firming up shift points and what not.

You can take the handheld tuner and put it on a truck, then copy the tune in HPTuners. Take the programmer off the truck and flash the tune back on with HPT, up the shift points, remove tm, take out all the emission codes, have the fans come on, etc then sell the handheld programmer. Do this for all the tunes on the handheld and you’ll be able to look at all the differences on HPT to see how they tried to get better fuel, power, towing, etc.

whats the deal with the fans? details plz

also oright now at 14.5 mpg, city driving with ac on full

electric fans…I usually have them turn on at a lower temp and have them stay on for up to 120 seconds after the vehicle has been turned off. I like to keep things cooool

cool, there was a setting in there for fans

Just got 15.4 last tank mostly city driving

im at 16.5

Is that because of the tuner or were you doing a lot of highway miles?

I was getting 17.6 avg before with the blackbear tune… then I put these 285 tires on and it dropped to 15. This 5.3 sucks with any kind of load on it. I should have bought the Ford.

yeah i cant believe how your truck downshifted with my empty trailer. gotta be those tires

Ive been putting some miles on the truck lately. Drivng an hour at 75 mph with the cruise averaged me a best of 17.2 mpg. Coming back at 80mph averaged me 16.6mpg. right now with 60% highway and 40% city I am at 16.3 and slowly going down. The truck likes this 87 performance tune. I am thinking about increasing the shift pressure and playing with the fans now. Next order I put into Summit will have the K&N drop in filter and maybe even the cat back exhaust. They MIGHT help the trucks performance / mileage a little bit but mostly for sound/bark.

I love the dynomax exhaust on my wife’s VMaxx. It was super cheap and sounds great.

yep thats what i have and the airaid pipe and drop in filter

It’s been a while since this has been updated. Any progress JT? Whats your average now? Is the tune the way to go?

Just picked up an 09 Silverado myself with the 5.3. Looking into my gears now. What mods have you done yet? Any?

I gave it back. Average is 14.3

Choda drives like a madman, lol. I get around 20 highway, and 16 city.

I towed my car on Choda’s trailer 1408 miles including a trailer tire blowout where I had to nurse it at 20mph for 12 miles. I averaged 15.3 mpg on that trip. No tune, no K+N filter, bone stock. My truck is 2wd with stock sized tires.

My 5.3 gets ~20, not driving all that nicely either. But it’s in an rx7, and has a t56. My dad’s service truck has a 6.0, it weighs about 8500lbs fully loaded, he gets 13ish.

Im wAiting on Lz or new Era to come up with something for this thing. Then I’ll be making sick power and great mpg

My 5.7 IF i can keep off the loud pedal would return 30ish. I made a few trips and took it easy and was amazed.
Hammering on it I get almost 20.
