I-pod opinions

my son wants an I-pod, he doesn’t know why other than he wants one. He currently has a 20 gig I-River. Myself I perfer the I-River, but I guess due to apple’s good marketing, he is hooked on wanting an I-pod.

What should he get and why? (such as how many gig, shuffle, nano, regular, something else, ect.)

thanks,
Tom

How much music does he have?

Will he be putting videos on there?

Does he want something thinner or he doesn’t mind the bulk of the regular ipod?

The main question I’d ask him is how often does he want to change his music. I don’t change my music often but I also have about 30gigs of music. My 2 gig nano does fine for me, although I wouldn’t mind having an 8 gig one.

i have a 1 gig nano and i use it all the time my wife has a new shuffle and uses it all the time also

i will proably get the video one in the next year

i have a 60gb and love it. there are is also a big after market for accessories for the ipod than the other mp3 players

How old is your son? If he is in middle/high school I would say stay away.

More then likely its going to get stolen at school(if he doesnt take it there then Im sure he will be fine). Get him something not so easily recognized like the Creative unit.

he wants an ipod bc everyother person has one. So its just one of those “i need it to be cool” things. I’m 16 so i know whats going on. I don’t have one myself.

thats always the case, being I worked for apple for 2 years I can attest that buying your kid one before he graduates is probably not a good idea. I took 2-4 calls a day where someone got theirs stolen at school and wondered if we could do anything about it.

i got the 60 gb one, its greaty, the only reason i bought an ipod though is becuase it plugs right into my car.

I dont see videos being an issue, as his current I-River has the same ablity, but it is never used. Also he rarely changes music. I know this becasue he has to come to me for music.

As for size, he’s not sure, so I’m even less sure.

He will be in middle school next year. He currently already has another unit, called I-River.

This was the reason I thought he wanted. So I’m looking for others opinions on what I-pod to buy.

Tell him to get a J-O-B, and get one himself, ecspecially since he has something already that works perfectly fine. Well, thats what my parents would have told me at that age.

A few have been stolen at my school. Many right from peoples cars.

Yeah if he doesn’t use the one he has now there’s no reason to buy him an iPod just so he won’t use that. That’s just where I’m coming from. I do know that my daughter is spoiled and will be spoiled if I have the money so I can sorta understand where your coming from on that end.

I guess if his i-river was broken then this thread would be very well justified but right now there really isn’t a reason, unless you plan on picking him up a shuffle which is only $100, but if your looking at anything else your going to be spending quite a bit more.

I got a 30GB video and I love it. Especially cus porno goes on there real nicely… But that’s beside the point. I don’t have much music but have a 30GB mp3 player just makes me wanna steal more music, is that bad?

2GB Nano… I dig it. I wish I would have gotten the video one now.

Well the I-river wont goto waste, it will become mine. And after som disscussion with him today, the reason for wanting something else, is that he wants something smaller.

Pick him up a 1 gig shuffle. Its small and you don’t have to worry about losing to much money.

i have a samsung mp3 player… and love it. I would never spend the money on an Ipod.

I thought tree huggers liked apple computers?

If he insists, get him a shuffle. Sounds like he doesnt need anything fancy. Or tell him to take the damn iriver to school and laugh when kids get thier ipods stolen.

I got a 4GB nano
