Actually last year TIME magazine did a huge article about how it is taking kids up to 3 years extra to graduate with a 4 year degree… and that is the average… They blamed things like the growing cost of school, the economy (cost of living), and apathy.
Due to my lack of a job, and availability to work 40 hours, I have been forced to drop classes to make more time for work. So it will take me 3.5 years to get my Associates. Whatever though, I will eventually get where I’m going. Doesn’t really matter when.
temper, temper…
someone can dish it out but cant take it.
i already work a 40 hr work week as an engineer.
so why dont you just go to school for the rest of your life.
best job i ever had was while i was in school. bust balls during the week in school then thurs friday and sat night 5pm-3am deliver pizza’s avg. around 12-15 bucs an hour with tips. had fun at the pizza shop and got paid. lil rough on the car. but just have to clean it twice a week. its worth it in my book.
Have you ever heard of Pampered Chef? (no I don’t sell it)… But I know someone who does (or did) and I know she made $30,000 the first year. You go to someones house… cook a couple of things… Sell a couple of things and go home. The orders are shipped directly to the host who then hands them out to the buyers. Your work is limited to what you choose to do. You can work as much or as little as you want.
Their recipes are super easy… It’s all designed for working moms… who don’t have time to fool around…
ya. not having his degree really seems to be holding him back… has a house, two cars, full time job, etc.
i hope you realize there is a little more to success than taking a 50,000 dollar 4 year drinking binge and getting a sheet of paper for it.
hum… just wait until you lose a job and cant find anything. I’m sick of your comments on how easy it is to find a job and how much cooler you are than everybody because you picked up a trade and are practicing. You should talk to my dad about how long his engineers last at his company with an attitude like yours.
On another note. He can go to school for the rest of his life, What do you have to lose if you do? My mom’s step sister has been in college for over 20 years and has more degrees than I think she can name… My 63 year old grandfather just went back to UCONN to learn how to counsel recovering addicts. My other grandfather just went back to school about 6 years ago and got his Masters… if you love to learn whats wrong with going to school forever?
your absolutely right…taking a 5 year drinking binge and getting a worthless piece of paper =) hahah jk your right though you can still get a decent ass job without a degree.

Thats true everywhere… Attitudes don’t last long anywhere
Newchic had an excellent idea… I am def not the “girly girl look at me look at me kinda girl” and I dont think you are either but if you can suck it up for a few months … Selling makeup like mary kay makes a killing too… I had a full time Engineering job still not making enough money and this basically kept me above water. I hate make up and all things “girly” but for the money I sucked it up …
Were I to lose my job, I’d become my own one man marketing force. I’d sell make up, Longenberger baskets, Pampered Chef, and adult sex toys. The first three would make the money and get you in the door, the toys, well, c’mon, it would be fun
I was just thinking there are other things to sell also… I was thinking candles and Home interiors… But you could sell any of those… Even get your self a little website to sell it.
Mary Kay
Jafra
Home Interiors
so on and so forth
you guys are funny… college education is a very valuable resouce but is definitely not necessary for success. that piece of paper i got, showed that i was dedicated enough to complete the requirements of the school and state. On completion of this I was put into a different class, I was considered educated. Does it help me get my first job? well no, but i can pretty much guarantee it will help me more in the long run then the guy that did not get that piece of paper. I would consider my boss pretty successful, 26 years old an in a management position. He takes two classes every week trying to complete that Bachelors. He knows that if he does not get that slip of paper someone easily enough can pass him right up in the food chain. My dad can attest that he would be sitting in a cushy VP job right now instead of still being an engineer. don’t get me wrong I think he loves being an engineer, but different opportunities could have opened up for him with a college degree.
i don’t think its right for anyone to knock having a degree, but you should take pride in yourself to try to obtain one. Obtaining the degree was probably the best thing I have ever felt, especially since I was always told I would be a failure.
That’s true Whitey… Getting a degree is a huge accomplishment and you should be proud of your self… I think what they are trying to say is don’t assume that since you have a degree you are gauranteed a job… Getting a job takesd a lot of work and a huge amount of luck. You need to be in the right place at te right time.
I do not have a degree and I can see me not advancing on anything other than hard work… I can do it… But I need to work twice as hard to prove I can do it… as opposed to having a degree to show someone… But the same goes the other way… You won’t advance in a job just because you have a degree… you need to be a hard working.
My opinion… Hard working people will advance quicker… degree or not.
