I will never ever ever find a job

i’m just saying fuck rmcockrider for being presumptuous and pompus about something he knows nothing about. his attitude is what is getting discredited, not a degree.

a degree is something to be proud of, as is getting a new job, or achieving any goal… once you think you’re owed somethign is where the problem lies.

this is the truth…

I know a lot of fraternity brothers who go 4 1/2 years for a 4 year degree. Why? Because they dicked around and didn’t do their work. Just shows what they’re going to do on the job… Mostly because they’re lazy fucks.

 So they are lazy… ok… ummm… and the point is?

i was in a fraternity, i went to school for 4 1/2 years. I see no point in your comment.

i went 4.5 and wasnt in a frat, so there goes all the possiblities

bunnies frolic, rabbits go at it. so id assume they are rabbits

wrong thread?

the only prob with college is that the costs of ‘earning’ this degree are rising at 3? times the rate of most starting salaries. fucking highway robbery. it’s not that ppl feel owed, but slighted. you pay a arm and leg, graduate, and then are offered hourly wage or 100% commission selling insurance. that’s when the ‘this degree’ is worthless mentallity sets in.

also, i didn’t consider college a challenge, it was basically ‘the next step’. it wasn’t really hard, and as a business major i had a hard time listening to profs talk about the real world… when in reality, if you were such a great business man you’d be knocking back 6figures a year in the private sector not teaching at saint vincents fo 50k

really? you have clearly done your research on this one…
being in a fraternity was probably the part of college that made me mature the most. also, there are a ton of people to help you out. schools now require you to maintain a certain gpa to even take part in any kind of fraternity activity, and most fraternities have their own rules that surpase those put in place by the school. you should probably do a little more than watch animal house a few times before you consider yourself an expert on fraternities… but thats just my two pennies.

i went 5 yrs, got 2 degrees. i work on cars. go degrees!

they are over rated. dont even get me started. all i know is the best bet for me right now is to get a good camera, and start freelancing articles. sad thing is photog skills will suck balls until i get the hang of it. the writing is there. when u get turned down from jobs for being over qualified, the job market sucks.

I wasn’t neccesarily pointing to the fact that my fraternity brothers are the only people not going more than 4 years. I was just saying I know a lot of people who are going over 4 years…

I’m in a fraternity at duquesne, do you honestly think that’s animal house material…

It will probably take me 3 to 3 1/2 years to get my associates… because I have to work 60+ hours a week… WTF? I must be stupid or something

you could always do online school…

 i pitty the fools who dont stay in school

probably the biggest thing i have noticed with people that graduate college and do not get a job is because they never worked for it. Since my freshman year of college I was working at internships and working on computer related activitys on campus. I had a resume stacked from internship work, so I was ready for the working world. I know a few others that did the same thing I did and came out making good loot. Honestly if you feel jipped by going to school, getting the degree and not getting a job. can you say you did everything you possibly could to market yourself to a future employer?

^^ Truth

Definitely agree. There are two main reasons why people get a degree: to learn and/or to make money. I went to make money bc in business (although may i stress that it IS possible to be successful without a degree in business) a lot of the time opportunities within a company are limited without a degree. I work in human resources so I know first hand, if were hiring for a position and one person has his/her degree and the other doesnt, then the person with the degree is automatically progressed.

Although marketing and preparing yourself while in school is vital to being successful, I agree with Jenn that sometimes the job market just sucks!

Jenn, what about working as a home health aide? I’m a certified nursing assistant. I take care of a man who has a brain injury. I make $12.36 an hour. Home health agencies will work around your schedule. You tell them what days and what hours you can work, and they will tell you what they have open for staffing. You don’t have to be certified either, some jobs pay more if you are though. Also, since your a psych major, you could work on cases with behavioral issues and it would be good experience for your resume. That’s how I ended up in this field, I’m going to school for nursing and I know that this type of work will give me a heads up when I’m a nurse and it pays very well. I work for www.bayada.com You have to have a year of experience where I work, but you can check other agencies. I can give you the names of a few if your interested.
