If I were to spend $40K on a car...

I could buy a decently loaded new A4…a new sti or evo… cts…the list goes on…

What about this car…

It’s rwd…6 spd manual. 400hp and luxury. only 38K miles.

sure…the maintence isn’t cheap…but it can’t be much more than the evo’s maintence.
A ferrari v8 would be awesome. especially for 40 grand.
I’m not saying I would buy this, nor am I in a finacial situation to buy it… but If i was in the situation to spend 40 grand on a car… why would this be a bad desicion?

do it

Thats nice

i dont see any reason to not buy it if you had 40 grand to spend on a summer only car

I’ve said this to so many people, and no one seems to really get it.

Being able to afford to buy something, is NOT the same as being able to afford to own something.

You can write that down, and use it as a reminder anytime you contemplate a big decision in your life.

Seldmeier101, I’m not talking to YOU specifically, just something for everyone to think about.

Like i said… I couldn’t afford it… but why not do it?

Drive a baller ass exotic car… throw some snows on it and drive it in the winter as well.

but why not do it?

Re-read my post.

A brand new warrantied 40K Evo/STi / = a 40K used Ferrari powered Maserati, in terms of ownership costs.

:word:

I am all about buying things I cannot afford. A car is not one of them lol.

Just my 2 cents.

Sexy car but for $40k i’ll take the TL and be able to replace parts cheaply. Maserati parts are expensive and normal maintenance will kill you as Joe is trying to tell you. Take it from Joe he’s a good egg with his head on properly.

Spoken like a true exotic owner :uhh: Truth…

I’ve been looking at these for a while actually. As of now I’m seriously considering buying one next summer. (if I stay with the same company)

Joe, what type of regular maint. do you have on the lotus and what type of costs are involved. Obviously two complete different exotics, i’m just curious.

lol… i have a feeling maserati parts are a bit more than evo parts. just a guess though :gotme:

also for 40K you would be getting a new evo/sti + mods, which would more than likely outperform the hell out of that. however yes, less baller and less luxo.

sexy sexy

The Lotus Esprit requires interval servicing, A, B, and C (EXTREMELY common for any high end exotic car). A and B services for the Lotus, are nothing I’m afraid to tackle myself. I’ll do those services, and brakes, and small things like that. I leave the C service to my mechanic Evan, who’'s worked on these cars his whole life. The C service (required about every 25K, unless the car’s not driven a lot, in which case it’s more often bec. age is worse than lack of use) is the largest and most costly. For the C service it is recommended that the timing belt, gaskets, and seals, are all replaced. Additionally, every system is thoroughly gone through and checked for proper tensioning and adjustments. It can also require the removal of the engine if both fuel tanks need to be checked (every Esprit will need this done at some point due to age and the lack of a great sealing 1/4 window, bec. the 1/4 glass is basically siliconed in, and if/when it develops a leak, water will drip down onto the tops of both fuel tanks).

I’ve done my homework on these cars and know about as much as anyone about them, and I can do this for pages and pages, but it’s pointless. My real point is this:

If you’re ready for this type of car, you need money or a lot of knowledge. If you have both then you’re in better shape than the rest. You can’t treat rare, expensive, and uncompromising cars with the same attitude you would with a heavily modified Civic hatch. The fact is parts ARE expensive (comparatively), the labor is NOT cheap (if you can’t do it all yourself), and your resale value is HIGHLY dependent on PO’s and the records that come with the car (don’t even think for a second this isn’t true).

Again, I’m just barely touching on some of the details for owning these types of cars. And a Lotus Esprit is cheap, for an exotic. Very cheap. Use your judgement…

^^ nevermind the fact that a lot of the car you specifically are talking about here are owned by plenty of rich housewives. so you can expect the oil was probably changed once a year.

edit: the maserati not the rotus

 to Joe

MEH. I owned my Elise for 2 years and 20K miles and changed the oil one time. never did any other service. But that car is not exactly an exotic.

Personally though, as a rule, I do not follow maintenance schedules, drive something into the ground and then sell it before it becomes my problem.

Note to self. Do not buy car from Newman.
The car is fucking hot btw. Buy it and then dd that shit. Someone go look up parts/service costs. I am sure they are as bad as we think. 91MR2 seems to have this subject on lock.

BWAHAHHAHA BWAHAHAHA

BWHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA
