Don’t the LSX motors explode with a small amount of boost?
I don’t think so… from what I’ve heard you can get quite a bit of power from a small amount of boost…
Ah. I’ve heard horror stories about the C6 Z06 boost attempts.
The '09 ZR-1 has a blown LS motor in it so I dont think theres too big of an issue with boost unless they changed something.
That car wasn’t made to be blown, the rods/pistons were made lightweight as possible. Definitely a beast of an N/A motor and there have been successful blown C6 Z06’s but the ZR1 was built factory supercharged so it was made on a beefier engine.
I am sure someone else can clarify this a little more but I am pretty sure C6 Z06 - aluminum block ZR1- Cast iron.
Or if I felt like it I could google…but I don’t.
There must be a difference because the C6 Z06 is a time bomb if blown while the ZR-1 is not.
With that said, saying it “wasn’t meant” isn’t exactly a strong argument. The 2JZ/3S/DSM weren’t meant to go 8s/160MPH+ in the 1/4 but they do.
The ZR-1 has an aluminum block- theres an article in the July issue of Hot Rod on it. It is a new and improved block and the article says that all '09 6.2’s will be using that block.
Oh ok, maybe it was the displacement I was thinking of.
I guess what I was getting at is there all of the LSx series motors are not the same.
How many are there now…LS1, LS2, LS3, LS6, LS7…?idk?..
The Z06 also has a 6.2.
Something IS different. Compression?
Z06 is definitely a 7.0L.

For any/all LSX questions - Johawk is who you wanna ask. He’s a geek about it. :tong
Yea sorry should have specified C6 :nod.
Yep.
Yeah, thats right. I dont know what I was thinking there.
Hey, don’t feel bad. I know this stuff 'cause I don’t have a choice, not 'cause I wanted to. :headbang
Yeah but it’ll only run for a week. (looks whos talking)
i thought i read somwhere about the ls8 and ls9 lol… not kidding either… somthing about the ls9 was going into some experemental vette project for 2011
I think the opposite can be cool, though not a common project -

and this is kind of interesting + laughs:

Oh yeah, and EJ20 ftw. :lol
most all lsx motors can take boost but the ls7 has a thinner wall cyl so it cant take as much …ask howard at redline he nuked one …but all in all the lsx series of motors are very stout and the new zr1 has a lower comp ratio to compensate for boost along wit oil squirters to cool pison crowns and such
